We were just discussing this in the mod forum (we're all a bunch of crazy animal lovers
) and we felt it was important to point this issue out to you.
Here are some articles and you can find many more on the internet. We're still seeing these suspect treats on some store shelves as there hasn't been an official recall. They don't know exactly what's causing it.
So please please please exercise extreme caution with the mentioned products and food/treats with ingredients from China. It's long past time our countries regulate animal food. If and until that happens, you are your pets first line of defense.

Thanks Meta!!
Also, I urge anyone that still see's these products on the shelves, get the manager and encourage them to remove them. They're extremely dangerous to pets.

It is also worth noting that there are tons of resources out there for making your own dog/cat food. My SO read an article of a man who's dog suddenly became seriously ill, and was on the verge of death. The owner started to make the dog's food himself, and the dog's health drastically changed for the better, and he ended up living two more years.
We have been seriously discussing making our cat her food. We are very attached to our Miss Kitty, who thinks of herself as The Love Furchild, Regeant to the Heavens, First amongst the 3 of Us, Empress of the Apartment to the Highest Decree. And yes, she acts the part and doesn't let us forget.
But in all seriousness, if anything were to happen to her saying I would be at a loss is the understatement of the year. So I am willing to do anything to make sure she lives a very long, happy life.

Thanks for highlighting this! It's appalling that this was able to happen.
