Did anyone's XWH/W or STXWH/W get an attorney to agree to represent them for free? My BFF's divorce from her WH is costing a freakin' FORTUNE because of WH's bullshit and NPD issues. The list of crap he's put her through would make your head spin, if not pop off...

Anyway, BFF is paying her attorney and, when all is said and done (very, very soon...), total will be (without TMI...) multiple tens of thousands of dollars.

Her STBXWH has racked up at least that much but, to date, has paid his attorney only a couple grand. Period. Yet said attorney continues to indulge his insane requests, filings, etc. etc.

Do you think the firm is just writing this off, knowing he can't pay (he really can't, btw)? Or will they set up some sort of payment plan, meaning he'll probably be paying them for the rest of his life?

Curious about others' experiences with this.

Thanks in advance!

It is hard to know for sure what kind of deal was struck. Is it possible that her WH hired an attorney just out of law school who does not know better than to appease the insane requests? Maybe a friend of a friend, helping him out? Or maybe he had some sort of prepaid legal plan (legal insurance)?

The cost of attorneys can vary wildly, even in the same region.

It would seem that legal firms/attorneys would offer free services to those in need - women's shelters for example - as most professions do. Still it is hard to believe that this type of service would tolerant of "insane requests."
