Yes. Chronic. Years and years of lifting and carrying ruined me. Cymbalta did give me some relief and massage always helps, short-term.

I developed it during pregnancy. Suffered for almost three years, finally had some intensive massage therapy & fixed it. It's horrible & debilitating!

3 words: cooled radiofrequency neuroablation. A serious lifechanger. (I've had SI pain for 30 years.)

It is freaking horrible!!!!

You have to find the cause of it. Some folks that run get it because they favor and lead with one side more than the other, those people can easily be rememdied by stopping running for a while, getting new good shoes fitted for you, and Chiropractic Manipulation and Massage.

If it's because of a degenerative joint issue then yes Epidural Steroid injections, Radiofrequency Ablation, and PT can help.

Don't ignore, and hope it goes away. You need to figure out the cause. I got because of how I held my kiddos when they were toddlers. I was lucky because the cause was fixable, and Massage therapy, and stretching got rid of it.

I developed it during pregnancy too. Then a week and a half ago had some low back pain after working out, usually can just stretch on the floor while watching TV and it goes away. This got progressively worse, so I went to the chiro and he said it was SI pain - I had not even considered that possibility. I don't know if I did something when I was working out or if it was coming on gradually anyway, but I've been to see him twice and still sore. Going again Friday. When I had it in pregnancy, it was way worse, but ONE trip to the chiro fixed it then. I wasn't expecting to still feel it after two session. Apparently my hips are all out of whack. ugh.

This kind of worries me . . . we had a health fair at my work and I was diagnosed (via heel scan) as osteopenic at just 26 - I had a DEXA that showed bone loss in one hip - and I am pretty sure it was the same side that is giving me issues now. With running and calcium supplements I was up in the normal range the next year we did the health fair, but I still worry about that DEXA result, especially since my mom and grandfather both had to have hip replacement surgery. Ugh. Should I talk to my family doctor about this? I had a different doctor then, and he prescribed Actonel for me. At 26. After some research I said hell no and never took it.

I've had it off and on since I was a teen (I remember always sitting with my left side against the radiators in the cafeteria at school) due to having scoliosis.

After a car wreck I slipped a disc and it aggravated it to the point where I felt like I had ground glass in that hip.

That went on for quite awhile. I found an industrial-strength jacuzzi at the community centre, the kind that hockey players use. That and deep tissue massage got it sorted out for me.

It can be very painful. (((JG)))

ME! Just started a couple weeks ago. at the pain. Chiropractor for about 8 visits. Now I have figured out how to "pop" it myself which is helping. Taking yoga, lots of stretching, shoes with more support all seem to help some. This thread is scaring me. I had convinced myself that I can make this go away in another week or two.

Raising my hand!

Happened to me after a foot fracture and months of treatment, crutches, walking boot, etc. It threw my hips all off and weakened the muscles all the way up the affected leg.

I saw a PT for 5 visits. She taught me ways to strengthen the muscles that were allowing the misalignment. She taught me how to "put it back in place". Yoga has been helpful, too.

It is treatable without going invasive.

OK so how are you guys popping this joint back in place? I am feeling kind of at the thought of doing that to my hip.

Although if you're talking about putting your leg up, knee bent at 90 degrees, and pushing with your foot until your hip pops - that I can do.

That is what I am doing Jana. It is essentially what the chiro was doing to me,
I put my foot up so my knee is at 90 degrees and lean my leg in toward the other leg while twisting my body over it. Pop. Kind of like wringing out a towel, twisting my body in 2 directions. I am a little afraid one day it will go snap instead of pop. but it feels much better once that happens and relieves the muscle spasms that start if I do not do that.

OK, I have had to do that in the past when my hip sort of . . . locks up, but I never attributed that to SI joint pain. Also that hip/joint/whatever pops multiple times in the morning whenever I bend down to get something, like a rapid-fire succession of pops. It feels awesome and awful at the same time.

Oh my God I am way too young to be so broken-down. LOL.

I did it so I could write and describe it and my neck cracked multiple times. felt good though.
My parents used to say I was "double jointed". I was not. Loose tendons that made me very flexible as a child, are making me a Rice Krispy Treat in middle age. Snap, crackle, pop

Yep, chronic. "Owww" is my favourite word. My chiro is my favourite person.
