I've landed an interview tomorrow at Office Max. It's for part-time work. I have always been in the corporate world and have always suited up for interviews. I'm at a loss on this one. Do I wear a suit??? Sounds like too much to me,... it's not for a job in their corporate office. It's a job in one of their stores. I'm thinking a nice pair of pants and a nice sweater, with a scarf maybe???

What do you think?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dosent matter. I interviewed for a seasonal Kohl's job in a business suit and heels. You know what that got me? Respect. I was treated with much more respect, they were quick to give me responsiblities first. They put me, untrained, into the customer service department rather then on the floor.

I made a point to not make them regret their choice and when I left they basically begged me to stay.

First impressions are essential no matter what job you interview for.

I think if you have a suit, you wear it. I am old school that way. Hopefully, someone from retail will chime in.

Yup me too. I say if you have suits and Corporate clothes you should wear them.

I'm old school too. The only interviews I have not dressed up for are the ones when I have been working already, and the Manager knows me. Then I showed up in scrubs a time or two, but felt very odd doing it.

The only time I did not wear a business suit to an interview was for the bird watching tour company when the person interviewing me told me not to--they wore shorts to work. I went to the interview in a linen safari jacket with matching linen pants. There was no way I was going to an interview in shorts.

Thank you for your responses. I did wear a suit, slacks, a suit jacket and heals. The interview seemed so easy and went very well. Was offered a job on the spot. Tomorrow I go for my drug test, then the background test and I start in a week after that.

Thank you SI friends for letting me toss my wardrobe question to you.
