But, how long is that white bar after the first post of every thread going to be there?? It trips me up every time....is this like a promo thing for a month, or is this the new standard?

Explorer, its the white bar that wants me to upgrade to premium access.

That is correct. You will only see those ads if you are logged in and haven't upgraded. You can upgrade for less than $20 a year. It is $1.66 a month for silver access.
