My chocolate chip cookies came out very flat... What did I do wrong?

if there was butter in them, it could be they just spread too much. or your leavening was old, and didn't work.

The batter seemed really thin... I think my butter was a bit too soft. I had to run out and get flour and it sat out too long. The baking soda was fresh... new box, just opened.

I might have shorted myself on flour too...

I used to make nice, thick chew cookies... I've lost my touch.

Different kind of egg? Too much egg will flatten a cookie.

This article summarizes all the issues I've heard of with flat cookies.

Yep... butter too soft and too much egg

I'll just have to try again.

No advice, but I'd be more than happy to take any of the ones that you are not happy with, jrc!

Oh I'm sure they'll get eaten.

We're having our annual "Thanksgiving Day" feast at our school tomorrow. Kids are allowed to have two guests show up to eat with them.

It's going to be a Cluster you-know-what... but at least the flat cookies will get eaten.
