Anyone going?

Do you plan your day? Do you just go willy-nilly? Do you get up at 5am?

Do you shop on Thanksgiving Day? (I can't do that)

DS and I are going out just for fun... If we get stuff, fine. If we don't, fine...

If it gets too crazy we go home and watch movies and eat leftovers.

Also... for those who go... do you know that you can see the Black Friday Circulars online now?

My sister & I go out. It's fun when you aren't looking for *the* thing that will make or break the kids Christmas!

Last year we found that with stores open Thanksgiving night, the Black Friday crown was considerably lighter.

I'm going this year. First time. Cashed in my credit card rewards for store gift certificates. Figured i'd stretch them as far as they'll go. Dunno if I'll go thurs night or early fri morning...but my mom said she was game...so we'll see.

I do not go shopping on Black Friday. There is nothing I want to get badly enough to make me deal with all the crazy people out there. Plus, I drive in horrible rush-hour traffic every work day. I am not going to deal with the same kind of traffic at a mall on my day off. Just not doing it.

jrc1963 posted 11/25/2013 16:32 PM

Well... I have nothing I need... so I go just for grins and giggles...

And if it's too crazy... I come home.

I don't do any of that crazy early stuff, but I almost always head out on Friday. It's crazy, but eh, so am I. When I get overwhelmed, I go home.

This year my mom and I are headed out. May drag along my dd and see how much we can get accomplished.

QS and I used to head out late Thursday night to hit up the 12:00 and 2:00 a.m. madness. We didn't really go for any of the big ticket stuff. We went for the fun of it. Ya know, cause standing in line for 4 hours when it's colder than a witch's tit outside is fun.

We've got some great memories from those coooooold, blustery nights/mornings.

Last year, we got up at 5:00 a.m., tossed the kids in the backseat in their jammies and blankets, and QS was my curbside service while I ran in and out of stores. When the kids woke up, they traipsed in with us in their jammies and house shoes. Then we went out for breakfast. They had sooooo much fun and begged to do it again this year.

If we buy stuff, cool. If not, we're making memories and participating in the crazy together.

Every couple years I get to looking at the ads and think it might be fun/a good idea to check-out some items. Then I hop in my car, and head to the destination I am most certain won't be that busy, and I see the lines winding around the building, and I keep driving until I end up back at home. Three hours after opening I head out again, see the lines gone, some spaces in the parking lot and say, "oh, what could it hurt to see if (item) is still available." The loss leaders are all gone and the store is a barren wasteland of overpriced items, but the crowds remain.

Not me, I avoid it all. You can get practically anything on sale on the internet, from your cozy warm couch. I can't deal with the crowds, it makes me terribly cranky.

We don't really have it here though a few Canadian stores are picking up on it with online sales. I don't think I could do it. Like Aubrie said.. it's so damn cold. I just went outside with the dog and I honestly don't think I'd make it longer than the 30 minutes it takes to walk the dog in the evening. It's frigid here! And I love him. I don't love line ups and masses of people

I'm somewhat agoraphobic due to social anxiety, so, NO!

Holy hell, no! DS worked at Best Buy for a number of years; I used to drive him to work at 0 dark thirty on Black Friday, then hightail it back home to make Chex mix. When it was time to pick him up, I made him walk about a half mile down the road and into a neighborhood so I didn't have to deal with the traffic at the store--and this was in sleepy, little Tucson. The police had to put up a temporary traffic signal outside the store; it was insane.

Never shopped it but I've sure as heck worked it...I work telephone customer service for a large cell phone company this year, we've already been warned that it will be nonstop on Friday, joy.

Williesmom posted 11/26/2013 08:15 AM

My mom likes to get out, but we leave the house at about 9AM, shop, do lunch, shop, and come home.

It's more about "girl time" and a day off. We haven't talked about whether we'll do it this year - I'm guessing not, because she has a different job and may not be off.

Last year, I drove 2 hours to go to an outlet store that has really cool stuff - I may do that again this year.

lieshurt posted 11/26/2013 08:49 AM

No way in hell. We have a few million people here and most of them will be out shopping that day. I'll stay home and finish my Christmas cards instead.

tushnurse posted 11/26/2013 09:51 AM

I did it once when the kids were little, got a few things, stood in line forever, it just wasn't worth it.

Last year, My mom, daughter, niece and I went around noon on Friday, and we got some really good deals, and the crowds weren't bad.

I had some great coupons and a day to myself this past Saturday, and did great on getting Xmas presents. Got to get way more than I would have without doing some searching for coupons ahead of time, and a few places had great sales already, including Penny's Kohls and Sports Athority. I am essentially done!!!!!

What a relief, last year, I was still getting presents on Christmas Eve, eve.

ninebark posted 11/26/2013 11:18 AM

They have just recently started doing black friday sales up here in Canada. But I have no desire to go out into the crowds. I save that for the boxing day sales..lol

Lionne posted 11/27/2013 08:26 AM

Going to get our tree, that's all. I dislike most shopping on uncrowded days.
