Likes books about "mythical" things. This is a church related exchange, so I don't want to get anything that could be construed as not clean Christian content. I think that rules out vampires. at least for me on this one.

Anyone have a daughter, granddaughter, niece reading something at this age bracket? I would do a gift card, but I think that would not be acceptable for this.

Thanks in advance!

Ooo! Thank you. I do not have kids and "mythical" is probably the last genre I would read, so appreciate the suggestion.

Author Madeleine L'Engle's quintet is a classic series.

A Wrinkle in Time

A Wind in the Door

A Swiftly Tilting Planet

Many Waters

An Acceptable Time

Check out the above link from the site Goodreads.

My intermediate students (12-13) loved these books.

Also the link below will give you a fairly comprehensive list of what Young Adult Fiction books are being read these days.

Wrinkle in Time was my favorite

(not book related but Michael's has tons of art kits (jewelry making, frame decorating, etc) that I've often used for tween and early teen girls gifts)

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

Beautifully written young adult novel. It is up against Harry Potter for the best written YA novel of all time. :)

They are currently filming the movie...

I second the Divergent series!

This one isn't "mystical", but its an oldie but goodie: The Anne of Green Gables series

The Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings. I also enjoyed the Divergent Series. You may also want to take a look at Cinda Williams Chima. She has two series that a 13 year-old would enjoy.

The Little House series was a favorite of mine way back when. Laura Ingalls Wilder.

DS, you are forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit with me. I will always try to live by the example you have set. I love you and miss you every day and am sorry you had to go so soon, it just doesn't seem fair.

Lemony Snicket (not sure I'm spelling that right) are popular with my girls that age.

He left me 18 weeks pregnant with twins for another.I am a Licensed Private Investigator..it even happens to us.

Anne of Green Gables series

I also heartily recommend the Chronicles of Narnia series. Get the entire series. If you start from the first book it's even more amazing.

My dd enjoyed books by Tamora Pierce at that age. If I remember right, they are the genre you are looking for.

They aren't mystical but my DD loved (and still does) all the Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. They would be quite appropriate for a church function too.
