So, one of my boss birthday is coming up and I wanted to get him a gift.

I do all his travel and have noticed that he always gets Coffee and banana nut bread, everywhere he goes.

So i thought about making banana nut bread muffins and a gift card to the coffee shop.

Is this odd? I have never really done gifts at work so i am not sure if this is an ok thing.

I think you should bring in the muffins for the office on his birthday for everyone to share.

At my office we do not exchange gifts; but we all go out for lunch together on birthdays with the birthday girl choosing the place.

It really depends on your office culture, but I don't want my staff getting my anything for my birthday.

I got my boss engraved brass luggage tags. We're both traveling more and more and these are beautiful.

You can find them at Orvis.com

Gifts between different layers of an organization can get really tricky. At my office, it would be highly frowned upon.

Do others in your organization exchange gifts like this, Undefinabl3?

They do. I have not been here for as long as the other admins, but gifts are exchanged many times after international travel and birthdays.

I do not have an 'office'. We are on a collage campus and the admins are in offices by their doctors. So while we know each other, we are not under one roof.

I think maybe i will skip this year and see how things are next year since i have not been here as long as the other ladies.

As for the travel, we are a small office and when any of us leave for a week or more we will often bring back a little something for the rest of the office. This is to thank everyone for picking up any slack during our absence. Is that maybe what your office is doing as well?

I would bring muffins- not a gift just a nice gesture.

Sometimes offices will do a secret Santa etc.
