you get sick.

Not the serious kind of sick--I'd have all kinds of people around if that happened. I'm just talking about the everyday cold and flu sick. Like I am now. My head feels like it's full of cement, my body aches and even my hair hurts. I'm surrounded by used Kleenex, dirty dishes, overflowing trash and I've been wearing the same clothes for 2 days. My apartment looks like a hobo lives here. I have tons of work to do and can work from home, thank goodness, but so far only have the energy to watch reruns of Friends and Big Bang theory.

I feel like a gross and disgusting cesspool of germs and while I should be glad there is no one here but me to witness this I can't help but feel sorry for myself.

So I thought I'd come here and whine. I wish I could fall asleep and not wake up until spring break.

just remember that the beauty of a person is in the heart and not in the body.

so, You are still beautiful with or without a shower!

My two cents

Pain and suffering is part of life, but I choose to feel love and compassion for all people excluding no one.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well, but you just described to me all of the good things about being sick when you're alone. No one can complain that the house is a mess and you're just lying around in your filth.

You will clean up when you feel better; the flu isn't a life sentence. Just relax, drink lots of fluids and enjoy the quiet, reruns and your sleep.

You are important and you matter. Your feelings matter. Your voice matters. Your story matters. Your life matters. Always.

Awwww, I feel for you. When I have a cold/the flu, I feel like I'm going to die--and actually there are times, when I wish I did! Then as it drags on and I have no energy, I think I've become extremely lazy! Next stage? I recover and think, "Oh, no, I'm not lazy. I was SICK." Happens EVERY time. And every time, I get better. You will, too. And then you can shower. And clean house. Those things will wait. Take care of yourself. My dad's remedy, a strong hot rum toddy, doesn't cure you, but it makes you feel like you don't give a crap that you're sick. :-)

thanks everyone. Sorry to be such a whiner but I was pretty deep in the pity pot last night. Being an overthinker it's pretty easy for me to make the leap from, I feel awful, I have so much to do, I'm lazy, I'll never get it done, I should take better care of myself, no one cares about me, I'll never feel better, I've made so many mistakes in my life, I'm going to die alone. Nothing like flu, over-reaction, 10 degree weather and too much Nyquil to turn you into a blubbering hot mess.

Thank you all for responding. It was the best medicine yet.

Thanks for posting. I thought I was the only one who wishes there was someone to take care of me when I was sick. Sheesh, its not like I ever had a man that ever played that role. Are they even out there?

Anyone else think this was going to be a giant spider thread?

I rarely get sick but when I do it is pretty bad.

I had gastro a few months ago - one of my girls had it too. I have a strong gag reflex at the best of times so it was kind of a comedic tragedy with her puking, me gagging, puking myself all the while trying to keep the catsos from eating anything yucky... and *TMI* all done whilst running to the loo every 5 mins.

I've learned a few things:

* its Ok to use a sheet when you run out of towels.

* vomiting whilst being watched by 2 kids and 2 cats is up there with my Top 10 weirdest life experiences.

* These days there is a distinct LACK of pressure to get better ASAP because my incapacitation was clearly a massive inconvenience to the sad clown.

Doesn't matter that it only happens maybe 2 times in 5 years, I was treated like a malingerer. Worse because I don't like taking over the counter pain meds so generally wait until I *have* to.

The only thing I miss is someone making me eat chicken soup, or checking to see if I've fallen into the toilet.

I may have reached a point where I'd piss on him if he was on fire.... eventually!!

My ex never took care of me either…so I don't miss it.

Now I keep an emergency stash of "flu stuff" constantly stocked. It has crackers, gatorade, cans of soup, popsicles (in the freezer!), ginger ale, box of tissue and toilet paper.

I have it ready to go if I become sick enough I can't leave the house, I know I"ll be good for a few days. It makes me feel better knowing that I have a "flu stash".

I wish I could be alone while sick! XH was never any help and he would always get sick (of course he claimed he was more sick than me) and didn't do anything. I've always had to be sick and care for him and the kids. Now I still care for two kids while sick. I dream of being able to just be sick and veg out on TV!

I'm not trying to diminish your feelings though. I'm sorry you feel alone and I hope you feel better soon.

newlysingle--what you are describing is exactly how it was when I was married to my ex! Any time I would get sick he would too, and always, always be sicker than me. I don't recall him ever doing anything to take care of me or the kids when we were sick.

Thanks everyone for reminding me that there are far worse things than being alone and sick. At least I don't have little kids to take care of too.

But I do hate cold and flu season. And there's a winter storm heading our way this weekend.
