I'm thinking of getting myself a pair for Christmas. I know they are expensive, but they look really cool. Are they meant for cold, snowy, sometimes slushy weather though? Do they do the job and keep your feet warm? How bad do they look after a season of salt and snow? If they don't hold up well, I might as well get a cheaper imitation. If they are the real deal though, please tell me all about them.

I don’t know anything about the functionality of Uggs but my 24 year old DD owns several pair…with another pair coming for Xmas.

my DD had a pair. loved them! they didn't fare well getting wet. (thinking about snow/slush for you) the wet left a water stain...

Hi STBM, I just purchased a pair, they were less $$ because they were from last year. Awesome!! I do not wear them in slush or snow, they are extremely comfortable, and I am able to do lots of walking in them. Check eBay and find ones you like!

Uggs are toasty warm but IMO not so good for the slushy, snowy, icy weather. The bottoms are mostly smooth and they are very slippery on snow and ice. I always waterproof mine and they hold up well but I don't wear them if there's a lot of snow or slush. I wear snow boots for that, or work-type boots.
DD has worn hers for everything and they always get that icky water line and she kills them.
I think they are better for the very cold days for warmth, not so much as snowboots.

Like AN said, they are good for keeping your feet warm and that's about it. Not good for wet or snowy, slippery conditions.

I have several pairs -in many colors; tall, medium and short heights (I'm wearing tall black right now!)- the basic styles are great for moderate use (indoors, shopping, running errands, etc) but the soles wear quickly and can become slippy on ice! For outdoor use I'd opt for a different brand or one of their more rigid styles with solid soles.
Quality is good but knock offs are just as good. I bought an off name from a bin of shoes (had to hunt for a matching pair) when I was in a shop in Australia - those were MUCH better quality (butter soft sheep fur lining, not like Uggs rougher linings) and only $20!!
Bottom line: I think they are like slippers with a stronger sole.

They are not snow boots... but they are warm and comfortable for everything else.
I wear mine every single day when I get home from work... I even wear them through out the summer.
I love them... but I don't wear them i the wet.

Personally, I think they look like caveman shoes, LOL.
If you're looking for something for slush, I suggest BOGS, Keens, or Timberlands.

Yes, other posters reminded me---Uggs are not just the typical ones that you see all the women wearing. I had gotten a pair of work boot style awhile ago and they were great. I wore them every day in the winter until I wore them right out, which is not easy to do with Uggs, lol.
I even got H to get a few pairs of men's loafers. He said, "I'm not wearing man Uggs!" and I made him try on a pair and he was like, "Oh...oh my, these are wonderful!" and he was hooked! He has arthritis in his toes and painful feet a lot of the time and he said they were the most comfortable shoes he's ever put on. (Of course, the kids teased him mercilessly for wearing 'man Uggs' but he said it was worth it!)
I'll often see DD coming out of the bathroom after a shower wearing a towel on her head, her bathrobe, and her Uggs boots. And she wore her moccasins to death, she's getting a new pair for Christmas.
Can you tell I'm a fan?

I just bought my first pair of Ugg boots, but not the typical style. The pair I bought look a lot like army boots with a fashion twist and the same inner lining.
I've read so many mixed reviews on traditional Uggs and didn't want to spend that kind of money on boots I couldn't wear in snow/slush. I've also read the soles wear out quickly and the darker ones get scuffed up pretty easily.
I am absolutely in love with the pair I purchased. They are probably my most favorite pair of boots ever (did that even make sense, lol?).
The style is called "Jena" and they are very comfortable and warm, with excellent quality. I get lots of compliments on them.
Check out their website because they offer other styles with the same comfort and warmth.

I just went to look and I couldn't find Jena because they said it was sold out and I guess they took down the picture!
Now I have a problem---I want a new pair of Uggs!

Dillards was the only place I could find my size. I ordered them 3 weeks ago.
I'm not sure how to post a picture, but just checked and the style is still up on their website.

You have to buy the appropriate "style" to wear in the slush, snow and ice, etc. The typical suede Uggs would not fair well under these conditions.
I have a pair of Adirondaks (tall) that I wear in the DEEP snow, slush, etc. they keep my feet warm & dry, even in the worst winter conditions. They were not cheap. But I can't imagine wearing anything else. I wear them every day in the winter and I am HARD on them. Other boots have worn out, fallen apart or began to "leak" within one season. I am into my second season with these and they are holding up surprisingly well.
I also have a suede slip-on pair that i wear in the house only.

I would like some - thinking more traditional - I'm in central Texas so it would be easy to wear them when it's not wet or icy.

I have Uggs, been wearing them since the early 90's when my H started selling them (not sure the history, but we had never heard of them until they showed up in his store). He was told they were originally made to wear in sand???? Who knows. My first pair I wore all winter in the snow, they did have a slightly more agressive tread than the "basic" ones of today. I still have them, after 4 kids, my feet kept growing, so they do not fit me, but my 11yo is wearing them this winter, she had a pair of knock offs last year which she loved, but says the real uggs do feel different and she likes them.
I wear the basic style but in a unique green because I am cheap and my pants usually cover most of the boot up so "stylish" is somewhat lost with me, although I secretly lust for all the fun styles and colors they have.
I spray mine with water repellant, the kind they sell in the shoe department or in the fine leather department. I spray once a year after I have brushed them.
I live in more "wet" than snow, but we get snow every now and then, I wear them in everything but mud.

I love mine as well and find they are much higher quality and longer lasting that the Fuggs I used to wear.
I do wear mine in the snow, but our snow is very dry (oxymoron? lol). If things are super messy, I wear my Sorells.
But I love my Uggs and so does my dd. She REALLY needs real ones because she has one flat foot and the Fuggs cannot hold their shape with that!

I have several pairs. My friends and I throw them in the washer in cold water and then air dry them. My favorite pair is 9 years old and washed about once a year.
