Teslet is over at his dad's the first week of break, but I get him on Christmas Day.
It's just going to be the two of us...no family in town this year. I don't want to do a full meal spread for the two of us...suggestions for something fun and different to eat for Christmas dinner?

We go out for Chinese since it is the only place open. Great new tradition the kids look forward too.

Make an indoor picnic on the floor.
Fried chicken

I like to go out to a very nice meal (that would cost the same as elaborate stay at home) on holidays when I'm alone (usually Thanksgiving). Otherwise - junk food! We always get cinnabons and chocolate milk for christmas morning. Then you could pick up a meal like rotisserie chicken and a couple of sides from whole foods.
Or you could go to a couple of movies and pig out on junk!

If it isn't too late, book a couple of seats at a fancy hotel dining room for Xmas brunch or dinner. Dress up and make it an occasion. A date with Mom!
After my parents divorced, my mom took us to Banff, which was nearby. We had Christmas dinner by candlelight in the old Mount Royal Hotel, and I had my first Shirley Temple.
We had an elderly male waiter who doted on me, and I loved every minute of it.
Sadly the hotel burned down a few years later so I can't revisit the locaion, but to this day it's one of my fondest memories of quality time with my mom.

Love the idea of dressing up and going to a "special" restaurant for a date with mom--but if that isn't possible I'd buy two Cornish game hens and then each of you can have your own "bird". Sides can be something easy--and something that you know he likes.

Electric fondue pot + oil + mini corn dogs/ tots/fries/mini pizza bites = fun for him.
For you have chunks of your favorite meats and veggies (even some of his tots!) fried (veggies actually blanch just like in water) in the oil. Olive oil/basalmic vinegar dip and bread chunks on the side to go with what you cook up. Super fun at the dinner table.
Just be cautious with the hot oil.

I think the indoor picnic idea sounds great! Unfortunately pretty much nothing here is open on Xmas day.
I started a new tradition for my kids for breakfast, we have pancakes and icecream (it's summer here). They love it. They get to choose some fancy ice cream flavour too, that I wouldn't normally buy.

If you have any casinos nearby they usually have amazing buffets. My boys are 20 and still get wide-eyed when we go to the casino buffet.

Thanks for all the great ideas!
I've never taken Teslet to the movies before...that might be fun.
Ex-shat texted yesterday asking if I wanted to pick Teslet up 3 hours early on Christmas Day!! Of course you all know I was all over that!
So maybe a fun Christmas breakfast out somewhere then a movie then presents and Christmas dinner picnic with chicken wings (his favorite! I've never seen a kid *love* chicken wings like this little guy!) Oh and we'll bake our traditional Christmas pie as well.
This is going to be fun!

I was going to suggest homemade chicken nuggets, but wings is even better if he loves them! For several years I made DD homemade boneless wings. This year is chicken parmigian and pasta with homemade red sauce.
HAve fun with your little guy!

I want to take my little ones to see Frozen in 3D. I take the grandkids to almost all of the kids' movies and 3D when we can. Fun for all of us and gives their parents a little time for themselves.

I took Emma to see Frozen. She's 4, and although generally an "active" child, she was very good at the theater. Frozen was really good!

I would highly recommend Frozen as well.
We saw it in 2D and I don't think it lost any of the wonder.
I think I enjoyed it more than my girls.
We may go see it again in 3D.
I just loved the message in it.
I won't give it away.
