I had a package shipped and I paid extra for "Priority Shipping". Ok, I know the holidays are a mess and they get behind. But the item was shipped on the 19th and expected on Saturday the 23rd. No package. No change on tracking. 24th, no package. Today, the tracking finally updated and said "out for delivery" YAY! So I wait at home ALL DAY. Finally at 6:15pm, I check the tracking again and it says, "Left Notice"

OMG!!!!

So I go to the mailbox. No notice. So not only is my mailman too lazy to come up and ring the damned doorbell and bring me my package, he's also too lazy to fill out the notice!!

WTH???

We had the same problem, nearly the same dates except it doesn't even show as notice left. All the other packages we mailed at the same time, even to further destinations, arrived before the 21st.

I've heard that during the holidays there are a lot of temporary or off shift workers delivering mail, so higher chance it's not your normal mailman. I think it's human nature to not take as much pride in doing a job that isn't your normal job, unfortunately.

We have this happen constantly, all times of year. Never with UPS, or Fedex, just the postal service.

I have lost several packages because they claimed they could not find my address (single family unit, visible from the street).

(And yes, I've filed complaints).

You can file a complaint, but it will go nowhere. The USPS is deliberately clueless.

I had an issue with late mail delivery when I worked for the tour company. We were in a business area in a business plaza, and quite often our mail would not come until after 5pm. I went to the post office to see if this could be rectified (local mail best practice was that business mail was to be delivered by 10am)

The postmaster listened to my complaint, then explained that Bob was our mailman. Bob also refereed girls soccer, and he took off a lot of time to travel to games, so our route often had subs that had to do their own routes first, then deliver our mail. Hence, the last deliveries. I explained that this was not acceptable, and the postmaster's response? "You don't like Bob?"

Sad,

I'm the last one on my route too. And Thursdays are my regular mailman's day off.

I know nothing will happen. It just burns me. I should have been sitting out there by the mailbox to get my package.

I had the exact thing happen to me. I mailed my son's only very expensive gift on Wednesday the 18th and paid extra for it to be delivered on Saturday the 21st. I tried tracking it and it wasn't in the system. I went to the post office on christmas eve and was told to file a claim because the package label probably fell off! (the label they put on) This morning I got got notification that the package just got sorted through the main post office closest to my sons home! I hope he eventually receives it and it's in one piece! I'm so frustrated!

So...I head out to the post office and ai meet my mailman coming down the road. I decide to turn around and ask him about yesterday. Turns out he HAD MY BOX.

He said the post office received and scanned the box as "out for delivery" after he had already left on his route yesterday. But that still doesn't explain the "notice left" scan.

So who knows what the truth is?

One year, my post office delivered my tickets to a Toby Keith concert to a house on the street behind me. It was sent with tracking and as far as the post office was concerned, they had delivered them. I guess there's no requirement to deliver to the right house.

I went to every house in a two block radius and finally found the tickets.

My post office is run by a bunch of schmucks.

OMG DS, You're lucky your neighbors behind you didn't open the package and say, "SCORE!!! Free tickets!"

It's unbelievable.
