expired multivitamins, Viamin D-3 and Calcium pills safely?

I know there was a thread here before on how to dispose of expired prescription pills, but I didn't pay attention.

Thanks so much in advance!

You can try calling your town hall. They'll know when they have special days for drug drop-offs. You can also try contacting your pharmacy. Some pharmacies take back expired pills/meds.

I never saw the thread you speak of, but I do know that the hospice nurse we had when my dad died dissolved them all in boiling water and poured it on the ground in the backyard.

Take them to your local pharmacy...they will dispose of them for you for free! Most people flush them down the toliet which is the worst thing you can do with them because it gets into the water processing system.

I wouldn't dissolve them and pour them into the ground, animals could get into that water or soil.....not healthy for them....

Pouring them into the soil (after dissolving) also allows them to perculate into the water table--never a good idea.

"a body"?

Naw, I know how to do that, I watch all those crime programs on Discovery ID. I also watch enough to know no one gets away with it. (well, rarely)

My Dads Hospice nurse used wet coffee grounds and dumped all of the pills into a zip lock bag with the wet grounds and squished them all up and threw them in the trash. She said you could also use kitty litter and a bit of water to mush it all together.

Calcium is a common garden additive. I would feel comfortable dissolving in water, diluting vitamins and watering plants. Not with medications which work differently. Medications need to stay out of biological systems.

You can place them with any unpalatable substance (kitty litter, used coffee grounds) in a ziploc bag and throw in the trash. Don't crush them. Never flush anything. You can also see if your community participates in any take-back events (also see http://p2d2program.wordpress.com/).

I work in the water/wastewater industry and flushing is a big problem...
