It's these discussions that I live for……

I'm between a "B" and a "C".

So says my 19 year old daughter, rather forcefully, as she walks into my room. I’m thinking she’s talking about her grades at University of Georgia as I had been asking her what her grades were for the semester.

And so I say: Between a “B” and a “C” for what?

……thinking….oh I don’t know….Math, maybe.

No. Apparently she had been shopping at Victoria’s Secret and was on her way back to return a bra that was too tight. And this conversation ensues:

Her: I got fitted and the woman said I was between a “C” and a “D”. “D” !?! Seriously….I asked her if she was kidding.

Me: Um….yeah….I don’t think you’re a “D”.

Her: No kidding. Maybe not even a “C”.

Me: I….uh….don’t really know, Sweetie. But I’m told there may be better places to go to get fitted.

Her: I think I should just take my own measurements and go online to this place that will figure it out for you. I am not a “D”.

Me: Ok. But you might want to find a better place to go and get it done professionally.

Her: Maybe my boobs are two different sizes.

Me: Maybe. Like my feet!!

Her: You have two different sized feet? That’s weird.

……as IF a discussion about her boob size with her father is not weird ?????

As I hear the garage door going up I realize my son (16) is not in his room. He’s gone off to Victoria’s Secret with his sister. So I send him a text:

“You with your sister?”

Him: “Yes”

Me: “Bra shopping with your sister. It brings tears to my eyes. “

Him: “I just went for the drive. I’m staying in the car. “

Awkward.

My now-teen-DS discusses the surprises he's getting from his changing body. Glad he feels comfortable doing it but

FWIW- size largely depends on the bra manufacturer. Or at the least from my research VS tends to be off from the sizes of other manufacturers.

Too funny... I used to have similar conversations with my step-father.

Meanwhile... if you have a Dillard's nearby I highly recommend their fitting department...

Well and it depends on what she wants the bra for. Everyday use, working out, going out ect ... can make a difference on the bra size ....

It could have been worse ... keep that in mind

Send her to Macy's, and remind her that the cup size doesn't necessarily equate to the breast mass - As the ribcage measurement goes down, the cup size goes up for the same mass - so a 36C = 34D in breast tissue.

For real though, Macy's. Way better lingerie department than VS.

As a woman with an inbetween size - finding a bra that fits is like finding the holy grail.

I have literally tried every make/model of bra's i can find, and Maidenform has been the best.

They have a new 'body' line out that is amazing and they are super affordable and look really cute.

Just a thought. Kohl's for the win!

I would have 'bailed' on that conversation waaay earlier ... just saying

I haven't had great luck at the department stores here. But the bra store that did a great fitting also utilized a "hands on" approach that I found a bit disconcerting! Might be a bit much for a 19 year old!

Frankly I just send dd into the dressing room with a handful of bras and let her figure it out!

Hilarious!

Good to see you again!

Dying here. That is too cute!!!
My dd 16 has conversations with me that I wish she just wouldn't. I always find myself thinking "I am so glad you are so open with me, now please stop talking to me about this."

Is that job still open?? Inquiring minds ...

I wonder how many convos like this I've had with my dad....or my mom lol. I remember one she had with my brother where he was 19 and needed to show her something in a uhhhh delicate area he was worried about lol.

Depending where you are and this may be awkward to tell her try myintimacy.com. They are amazing and have a few locations.

I am grateful that she feels she can talk to me about such things. But then…she always has been able to open up to me on so many things and for that I feel greatly honored, actually.

Other than recognizing that she is not a “D”…as I understand that size to be, I am woefully deficient in knowing anything about boob size. I know there are large ones…there are small ones….and all sizes in between. And setting aside, for the moment, that this started out about my daughter’s – they all are good. Really, they are.

I had no idea about VS “sizing up” to appeal to a woman’s ego. That just seems perfectly silly to me. I may pass that on to my daughter and direct her to some of the places mentioned here – well other than the one Sadcat mentioned (and at which TR seeks employment).

About this……

BTW Go Cats!

Go CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At first I’m thinking: “Really…..didn’t they win like…what…ONE game this season??”. And then I realize you’re not talking about football but rather basketball. It’s early. Let’s see how it goes. Having taken one class at the U of L campus (Physics) ….I’m afraid I have to err on their side. Sorry. GAWD!!!! Growing up in the “Basketball Belt” I heard more about UK, U of L and IU basketball than I care to think about.
