Each year, I give my daughter theater tickets for Christmas--a selfish gift, because then I get to go to the theater with her . (She doesn't have to take ME...)

Yesterday, we saw the play, A Normal Heart. It's about the early fight to raise awareness of and funds for research of HIV/AIDS---from the time when it was just "a strange cancer affecting a few gay men.

It was not a cheerful play. There was not a dry eye in the house. But it was outstanding.

If you have the opportunity to see this play, do.

It will also be released as a film with Mark Ruffalo as the protagonist in 2014, as well.

Take Kleenex.

(I'd also recommend the movie Dallas Buyer's Club, though the promiscuous sex scenes at the very beginning--which drop off almost immediately---have triggered some people; if you can get past that, or show up 10 minutes into the movie--it gives another look at how things were, when the fight was young. Take Kleenex to this one, too.)

BS-me, 62; X-irrelevant; we’re D & NC. "So much for the past and present. The future is called 'perhaps,' which is the only possible thing to call the future. And the important thing is not to let that scare you." Tennessee Williams
