I'm sure some of you have read it..

I got the series for Christmas, haven't started it yet.

Thoughts? Good, bad? It's the first series I know NOTHING about that I'm about to read.

I haven't watched the show, either so I'm really going in blind.

The first four books are fantastic, then (in my opinion) the author gets a little long-winded and adds in a lot of extra characters that make it more difficult to keep the threads of the story.

Don't get me wrong- it is a GREAT series.

However, George R. R. Martin is a slow writer (perfectionist), so it takes a long while for the next book to come out.

Enjoy!

Still working my through 5. I found books 2 and 4 to be a bit of a chore but for the most part I'm enjoying the series.

I agree with Gaby except that I found the fourth book to be pretty tedious too (although still good).

I'm loving it so far. I'm totally grossed out by the incest, though I'm enjoying the intrigue.

I love it!

I had a long break between 4 and 5, which I'm reading now.

Even though I read the wiki pages for reminders, I am so lost when certain things and characters come up....

I read them all when the last one, Dance of Dragons came out. Both H and I spent many months reading them. Sometimes it dragged a little, but he develops the characters so well that I could almost see them. I really enjoyed the series and look forward to Martin getting another one out.

When it came out on video we bought the first season and I think they did a pretty good job picking most of the people to fit the parts.

I think reading it is still better than watching it though.

I absolutely love the show!!!

I can't wait until the new season starts!!!

I haven't read the books. I've heard there are a few differences, but like all novels the books tell it better than the tv ever could.

This is the best series of books I have read. Liked if even more than the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. I am currently reading Name of the WInd and find it good as well.

I think this is probably my favorite series of books ever. For me there weren't any slow books. I am dying for the next one to come out. That is my only complaint....too long to wait in between books.

Coachdig10- where did you get Name of the Wind?

I love both the books and the HBO series. Tyrion most of all

Be aware that there will be differences....more and more as the series progresses.

I love both! I am more of a reader so I would read the books first. I read the books a while ago and read them so fast that as I watch I'm trying to remember what actually happened in the books, and having trouble.

I may need to read them again at some point.

I love both the TV series and the books. Maybe the show more, but they are further behind so we'll see how that goes.

I started with the show, and found the female characters more endearing, then on to the books and the male characters are more appealing. Except Tyrion, he is awesome in both.

I wouldn't worry about spoiling yourself one way or the other, they are different enough to be enjoyable in both forms.
