I'm at least a year away from applying for an MA degree program, at the daydreaming stage and just aimlessly surfing around looking at different options.
I plan on staying put at my "home university" for as long as possible, as it's one of the best in the country and is a nice fit for me. But this message from the dean of another place really is quite inspiring:
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Welcome from the Dean
Graduate study is a time to pamper your mind. It is a unique time in an individual's life, where the primary purpose is to read widely, engage in a world of ideas, and undertake systematic and rigourous inquiry in an area that is personally meaningful.
::: more stuff about his institution :::
Take this time to pamper yourself.
Dr. David MacKinnon
Dean
Research and Graduate Studies

I'm at the point in my life where I could afford to do this and not be terribly goal-oriented about it, so that's a luxury. If I can access funding, I'm going to go for it.
My mom did it a little younger than me after her divorce, so she was definitely my major inspiration. I know it will be a boatload of work, but the above quote just really sums up the whole reason for doing it for me.

I started in the fall.
It is a boat load of work, that is for sure. But, I am expanding my brain and doing things I never knew I was capable of doing.
There is no pampering your mind when you are a full-time single mom of two small people and going to grad school…that is for sure!
I'm just damn happy to have earned all A's.
I AM proud of myself though
Go for it!

Going to grad school was the best thing I did for myself. My kids were 1, 4 and 7 when I started. It was hard but so, so worth it. Good for you!

Has anyone done this while working full time? My kids are older (go cmego!) But I also work a part time job too on the weekends.
I'm taking one class starting in jan. But haven't applied ti the program yet. Also would have to take the gre or mat and a little worried about that.
Wonderful for you faithfool! I love what that dean wrote.

I did all my post grad work while working full-time and a lot after I had kids. The most recent work I did online, our state university had many of the classes I needed available as on online option. I loved it, but I think it's often MORE work and not for everyone, but a blessing if you have kids or if the distance is not reasonable, as it was in my case...
Sorry for the t/j!
Go for it FF!

I did it when my kids were very young and I was teaching full time. Not sure how I did it, it's all a blur now, but I was much younger then so I guess that helped!
Go for it!
FF, I'm glad you found words that inspired you! I can see why...he sums it all up beautifully.
DS, you are forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit with me. I will always try to live by the example you have set. I love you and miss you every day and am sorry you had to go so soon, it just doesn't seem fair.

I started at age 57 going half time and working full time. Took the GRE. My daughter had also started college and my FWH was mostly supportive. I will finish December of 2014 with a Masters that required 67 in class hours. I will be 61 and very proud of myself. LOL. If you more questions feel free to PM me.
