I'm shy but not introverted but maybe I'm still qualified to answer. Can you look at it differently than "selling" yourself? "Marketing" maybe;
"Presenting" yourself like the young aristocratic ladies did with their debutante balls?
I went to a small college in the 1980's and we had this freshman photo album with everyone's picture in it that we were given early in the first semester. It was a way of people getting to know the other members of the class (I think this type of publication was what facebook was based on). Sure everyone was looking up the cute guy or cute girl they met in the Union and wanted to find out what his or her name was...but it was a way of making the community closer. OLD can be like that...just a tool to meet someone...based on some basic trivial information, but it is only a first step...
I like to see who has "viewed" me as a possible way of connecting with someone who's profile I may have missed, but if that part grosses you out...skip the "who has viewed me" feature.
And as a shy person, I have met some really nice men through OLD. Hopefully I will someday have one of those "we met on Match" love stories to tell. awwwwwww
