2012 car needs new transmission

This is the same car that has given me problems since 500 miles. I have tried to get it declared a lemon prior and for other issues.

Yesterday and without warning it had a massive leak of the transmission fluid and required towing.

Today the dealership says it will require a new transmission.

The car has 20k miles. The repair will be covered under warranty.

But I'm even more nervous than before. With all the other issues I had been consoling myself with the fact that they weren't engine or transmission. Now....sigh.

Any advice, warnings, etc? Things to watch out for with the repair? Concerns for future problems? WWYD???

Honestly with newer cars, the engines and transmissions are the "easy" things to fix. It's all the electronics and infotainment crap that scares me.

Did the dealer say what caused it? If it's a common problem? How long is the warranty?

Is your 2012 vehicle still under warranty?
Also check for recalls on your particular make/model.

WH5 - they told me but I didn't understand...something to do with a seal between the engine and the transmission not being either installed correctly or being bad. It was crooked as it turned and eventually gave resulting in the sudden and massive fluid dump.

The dealership didn't seem to indicate it was common but the tie driver said he had picked up three of the hyundais that had the exact same problem - one of them being virtually brand new. Considering that those would all be just within my area....

Look up the lemon laws in your state. My state is pretty consumer friendly, and I was able to win a buyback after going through the hearing process.

Are they replacing the entire trans, or just repairing it?

WH5 - replacing. I was ready to fight for that but they offered immediately.
