A man goes online posing as a woman and loses all faith in humanity after 2 hours.

That is amusing. I wonder what OKCupid would be like if they had the option that you can't receive messages except as a continuation of a conversation you started.

Did you follow the link buried in that thread: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2006/mar/18/gender.bookextracts
About the woman who posed as a man for a year and what it was like to ask women on dates? It's interesting too.

OLD is hard for men and women. The block feature is nice.
I think...therefore, I'm single.
It is what it is.

Phoenix and others: I am a woman currently on OKCupid and I have not had anything like the problems of the author of that article.
It may be a generational thing, as I am just shy of 50 and looking for guys in my same age range. All the emails I have received have been polite and non-threatening.
Virtually all the senders have been in my preferred age range. I did get email from 3 guys that were way too young for me. I sent them all replies saying, "No thanks, but happy cougar hunting."
One of those young guys popped up a chat session and called me a MILF and made it clear he just wanted to hook up with me. I immediately blocked him and that was it. The other 2 too-young guys simply moved on as I suggested.
I have sent several messages of, "Sorry I don't see us a match, but good luck to you" and not received any hostile return messages. I also have not received any badgering, "How come you haven't replied yet?" type messages.
I don't know if it's a generational thing, that guys in my age range aren't as likely to be rude to women online? It could be coincidence, but as it happens the only guy I've blocked so far was in the younger generation.
Or maybe something about my profile repels the weirdos.
But anyway my experience has been positive so far, and I would encourage women my age to at least give it a try.
