When I first moved out from The Princess' evil clutches, one of my sisters (who is an author) said, "NOW will you finally write your novel?"
I didn't know I was expected to write a novel! I gave it a try, but it was just too much for my brain to handle. So back in July, I started writing a "blovel" (like a novel, but I'm doing it in a blog small entries on a web site, released twice a week). I'm having a great time with this, and have even gotten an app on my phone that lets me write and publish my entries from wherever I am. I've written entries all over this city, instead of being confined to my home office! It's cool. I had a look at the stats for January, and over 800 people have been reading. Feeling pretty cool!
I've done technical blogs related to my business for a few years now (over 3000 readers per month!). I finally decided to write a short e-book on one of the modules I often create in the custom databases I create for clients. I announced it on Wednesday, and have sold 12 copies so far. At $21 per, it's not making me rich, but it's a little extra spending money.
I also have a music blog that I've used for documenting my technique for improvising on my mandolin. It has about 200 readers per month. I'm thinking of creating that as an ebook as well.
This writing shit is kind of fun. I'm making bugger-all at it, but it's a fun diversion, and I could maybe get a little cash from it once in a while.
I hate that I'm not ALWAYS there for my kids anymore, but I'm using this spare time that I've found to do some cool stuff.
I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again: I'm not ready to thank her for it, but The Princess really did do me a favour by making divorce the only acceptable option.
Divorced the cheater and living my best life now.
The best thing about hitting rock bottom is that everything after that looks fucking fabulous.
