I learned this week at my Vegas medical conference that only 17% of Americans smoke. Unfortunately all 17% are currently here in Vegas. My friend is using his inhaler like a pacifier. I am constantly nauseated. I think it's partly because we're staying at a 60 year old property.

Of course the one weird thing is there are signs that people can't smoke in the bathroom. What's with that?!? You can smoke and eat but not smoke and poop? Are they expecting toilet paper fires? "Hey don't smoke in here where there is all tile and water... Go out to the casino floor where there's carpet and electronics and maybe a little old man on oxygen and smoke there!"

Yuck! I will have to remember to bring a new inhaler when we go in February. Do they smoke in restaurants there? That will be awful for me. You would think they would have giant air purifiers or something.

I haven't seen anyone smoke in a restaurant but they are all attached to casinos mostly without doors. The newer properties don't smell that bad. Just went to see the Blue Man Group (good but strange) and the Monte Carlo almost smelt like baby powder. Then I walked through Planet Hollywood (somewhat smokey) then Paris (not at all), then Bally's (mild). Then back to the Flamingo (choke, wheeze) where I almost passed out. Blessedly the room doesn't smell at all.

I live somewhere where you can only smoke at home or a bar. That's it. No smoking in restaurants, stores, malls, buildings, sporting events, nada. So this has been a shock to my system.

Haha, I laughed about you can't smoke and poop part. Funny observation.

It seems to me that since bathrooms are not designated by smoking status and are much smaller, enclosed spaces the smoke would be more condensed and offensive to non-smokers.

The smoke in Vegas casinos and clubs has always bothered me even though I get that it's a part of the culture. I'm guessing casinos allow people to smoke while they gamble because the longer people sit in the chair the more money the casino makes. Smoke breaks are probably bad for business.

I also live in a city where you can't smoke anywhere, even in some places outside. It's always a shock when I'm in smoky places because it clings to everything, makes my hair and clothes stinky and makes me wheezy.
