Be careful out there! (or stay home)

gahurts posted 2/11/2014 14:52 PM

We got about an inch and a half before it started melting away. The worry is the over 1/2" of ice that is expected tonight. Widespread power outages are expected. Even my kids' school district closed schools for tomorrow and they always wait until the last minute.

JanaGreen posted 2/11/2014 15:02 PM

If I were in Atlanta I'd stay the hell home! I doubt the city got any better at ice management in the last couple of weeks!

MovingUpward posted 2/11/2014 15:14 PM

True but I hear that they've stationed parking attendants long the freeways to help assist people in abandoning their cars.

gahurts posted 2/11/2014 15:25 PM

The parking attendants started collecting $5 each for Event Parking

You could make a fortune walking along selling bottled water and hand warmers. Just sayin'

Bring it on!!!!

I have a steep downward sloping driveway and multiple hills within and exiting the neighborhood (…a benefit of living at the foot of a mountain)…..more than sufficient reason to work from home. I've already greased those skids!!!

TrulyReconciled posted 2/11/2014 17:19 PM

You know I read that as "already greased those kids"

Kuwaited posted 2/11/2014 17:20 PM

Well…all the better to use them as sleds!!!!

Commuters are being advised to bring hockey skates with them ...

I've got a steep driveway that curves and at the base of the curve is a ditch with the transformer - dumbest planning ever. My cars are at the bottom of the hill.

Don't forget the stadium pals for relief from all the bottled water!

gahurts posted 2/12/2014 08:08 AM

This is what I woke to. It's still coming down and will continue for a while. The snow has turned to sleet and the roads are getting icy already.

JanaGreen posted 2/12/2014 09:12 AM

I just can't get over that once again, we're on the NORTHERN edge of the storm (I'm in Knoxville, TN) while the states south of us are getting hammered. It's bizarre. Still 34 here and no snow.

metamorphisis posted 2/12/2014 11:17 AM

I know.. I'm in Canada and we still have a ton of snow from last storm, but nothing predicted any time soon. It's just disgustingly cold. Our kids have been kept in for recesses almost every day for weeks and weeks. This is nuts.

Yeah, I'm just south of Nashville and "supposedly" we're going to get hammered today. Yeah, ok. The weather man has cried "wolf" soooo many times this winter, and we have yet to see the wolf so far.

School today was cancelled. Church tonight is cancelled. Everyone is in a panic. They've already declared a State of Emergency.

As of right now, we've had a tiiiiny bit of rain, and for a second it was sleeting. Oh, and the temps are a whopping 37.

Drama Llamas here I tell ya.

Should be interesting...we are currently in the 10" - 18" forecast for tonight/tomorrow. The low estimate (90% chance of probability) is at least 5". Time to get the toboggans out!

Since you're planning on getting hammered ...
