I've seen a few of these threads so figured I'd contribute one. I tend to favor rock music, and in situations such as what many of us are going through here, the louder and angrier, the better IMO. I realize my tastes are definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but the lyrics below just seem apropos to me anyway.

Thanks for letting me vent.

"That Day" by Nonpoint

It wasn't just the words that were thrown around,
It was the sound that they made when they hit the ground runnin'.

You were out for blood,
And I was still tapped out from the battle before

I remember the smell in the room,
It was a bad tattoo like cheap perfume.

Waiting with the windows open,
Just hoping that the sun breaks through for a moment

The days turned to weeks, months into a year,
I gotta bring up all the things that I want her to hear.

Then the same old pat on the back,
It all work out,
And everything will be alright

Losing sight of reality while losing the fight to try to forget,
All I have are the memories of every single word you said.
Every single word you said.

I remember that day,
Everything changed.
I remember that day,
That image never fades away.
I remember that day,
Something died inside of me.
I remember that day,
That everything changed.

It wasn't just a senseless situation,
No sense of making something out of nothing now.

I know it would be pointless at this point,
It's hard to point out any problems now

Are you forgetting that rumors and reputation
Don't help your situation.

When all you have to show the world,
Is how you act out your problems like a little girl!

And if memory serves me right,
You were serving up nothing but a plate of lies.

And it was covered in flies,
Rotten from the inside out,
Excuse my words as I put it in my mouth!

Yeah, losing sight of reality while losing the fight to try to forget,
All I have are the memories of every single word you said.
Every single word you said.

I remember that day,
Everything changed.
I remember that day,
That image never fades away.
I remember that day,
Something died inside of me.
I remember that day,
That everything changed.

You say I have a problem now.
I think we have a problem here.
You say I have a problem now.
I say there is no way for us out of here!

I remember that day,
Everything changed.
I remember that day,
That image never fades away.
I remember that day,
Something died inside of me.
I remember that day,
Everything changed.

That's a good song.

Just listened to this and the Goprdon Lightfoot Sundown (from another new thread) back to back, both quite different from my normal listening fare! Guess SI is expanding my horizons

MadeOfScars posted 2/12/2014 11:18 AM

Never imagined I'd see Nonpoint and Gordon Lightfoot mentioned in the same sentence. Sundown makes sense here though.

Rock is awesome! In fact any loud, aggressive music is awesome when you're stressed. Crazy train was playing on the radio yesterday during my evening commute. I cranked that up and had my singing at full blast, had the Ozzy gestures gestures going, the whole 9 yards. I didn't care who was looking or what they thought. I never do, if I feel like ROCKIN out, I'm going to and damn the others who drive responsibly :). I imagine some others who witnessed my antics get a chuckle and I'm glad if I make their commute more entertaining.

As far as songs that depress me now, I used to love Pearl Jams Black, it was my favorite song by them. 3 months ago it was playing on the radio, and I actually HEARD the lyrics for the first time of a song I knew by heart. I never picked up on that before, it's amazing how depressing that song actually is.

MadeOfScars posted 2/12/2014 13:01 PM

Wow...yeah, I know what you mean about Black. I absolutely loved that song, but I always knew what it was about. It'll be a while before I can hear that again without breaking down. I know even in the rock genre, some songs are going to remind me of concerts we went to, moments we had, and I'm going to be very angry she took those away from me. At some point though, the soundtrack of my life per say will be what it once was, if not better.

MadeOfScars posted 2/12/2014 13:03 PM

and oh yeah, keep rockin' out wherever and whenever LifeIsTooWeird!!

Keep 'um coming guys! Just added Nonpoint to my playlist for strength. Awesome!

Case in point on lyrics: I heard Depeche Mode's Policy of truth last night and I had always thought of it as a song promoting honesty, but it is actually just the opposite.

I am always amazed at how the universe throws tunes on the radio at just the time we need to hear them...

My take home on that? Keep your radio on. And NOT on the talk stations.

I hear a lot of music in Spanish. Here''s a translation of one about breaking up with WWs. Of course it loses all the rhyme, but the lyrics are awesome, and it''s upbeat so it even puts you in a better mood. I think I''ll crosspost in Betrayed Men

Quť vueltas da la vida (How life turns around)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?vJlmmyTwkX8Q

Who brought you 'round these parts?
Who told you that Iíd never forget you?
That you were the queen of my life?
Not to make you feel bad, but Iíve been told around that you lost,
That I won the lottery

(Chorus)
I gave you even my shirt, but you took yours off - what a way to lose!
I was in the clouds, you on the streets
I never stopped you, why should have I? - Na na na na na na.

When I had I had you, I up kept you and I gave you
Now I have none and I donít have you, I donít upkeep you and I donít give you.
Find yourself another guy to have you, upkeep you and give you,
Today I donít have any, nor do I have you, nor do I upkeep you nor do I give, no no no!

Come on, what are you drinking?
I can heal your pain with a bottle, and whatever affection I have left.
Everything comes, everything goes, you left and now youíre here,
who would have thought it?
How life turns around

I gave you even my shirt, but you took yours off - what a way to lose!
I was in the clouds, you on the streets
I never stopped you, why should have I? - Blah Blah Blah

No No No No No NoÖ

The footprints of the past have been left under the mattress.
Forget my life, forget my love!

When I had I had you, I up kept you and I gave youÖ (1x)

Today I donít have any, nor do I have you, nor do I upkeep you nor do I give, no no no!

Run away, I donít want anything anymore,
Look how life turns around!

I like the lyrics! Yeah, it maybe loses some rhythm in translation I suppose, but the message is still pretty clear. I'll look this up and give it a listen after work today.

Case in point on lyrics: I heard Depeche Mode's Policy of truth last night and I had always thought of it as a song promoting honesty, but it is actually just the opposite.

I will definitely be giving that a listen from a different viewpoint too. Interesting.

yeah,Oooooooo We could sail away Or catch a freight train Or a rocketship into outer space Nothin' left to do Too many things were said To ever make it feel Like yesterday did

Seasons must change Separate paths, separate ways If we blame it on anything Let's blame it on the rain

I knew it all along I'd have to write this song Too young to fall in love Guess we knew it all along

That's alright, that's okay We were walkin' through some youth Smilin' through the pain That's alright, that's okay Let's turn the page

My friends called today Down from L.A. They were shooting pool all night Sleeping half of the day They said I could crash If I could find my own way I told them you were leaving On a bus to go away

That's alright, that's okay We were two kids in love Trying to find our way That's alright, that's okay Held our dreams in our hands Let our minds run away That's alright, now that's okay We were walkin' through some youth Smilin' through the pain That's alright, let's turn the page And remember what I say girl And it goes this way

Girl, don't go away mad Girl, just go away Girl, don't go away mad Now girl, just go away Here we go

Don't go away mad I don't want you to stay, Yeah Come on, girl

Come on, baby I'll say it one more time

Girl, don't go away mad Girl, just go away Girl, don't go away mad Girl, just go away yeah, yeah Girl, don't go away mad Girl, just go away, Yeah Now I said girl, don't go away mad Girl, just go away Now I said girl, don't go away mad Girl, just go away, yeah Girl, don't go away mad Girl, just go away...

This is how I feel but of course I change the words from.she to he

Motley Crue...yes please

I loved Sweet Nothing by Calvin Harris//Florence Welsh pre-A, but post-A it kind of destroys me. (Lyrics below)

And i think Dave Gahan from DM battled depression most of his life. If you listen closely, most of their lyrics are sad/jaded. Their CD Black Celebration is as bleak as it sounds.

SWEET NOTHING

You took my heart and you held it in your mouth
And with a word all my love came rushing out
And every whisper, it's the worst,
Emptied out by a single word
There is a hollow in me now

So I put my faith in something unknown
I'm living on such sweet nothing
But I'm tired of hope with nothing to hold
I'm living on such sweet nothing

And it's hard to learn
And it's hard to love
When you're giving me such sweet nothing
Sweet nothing, sweet nothing
You're giving me such sweet nothing

It isn't easy for me to let it go
Cause I've swallowed every single word
And every whisper, every sigh
Eats away this heart of mine
And there is a hollow in me now

So I put my faith in something unknown
I'm living on such sweet nothing
But I'm tired of hope with nothing to hold
I'm living on such sweet nothing

And it's hard to learn
And it's hard to love
When you're giving me such sweet nothing
Sweet nothing, sweet nothing
You're giving me such sweet nothing

And it's not enough to tell me that you care
When we both know the words are empty air
You give me nothing

Nothing

Wow. Gordon Lightfoot. He has some fabulous songs. My favourite is, "If you could read my Mind" give a listen to some of his earlier songs. He's a great writer. Poignant and sensitive. I use to go see him every March in Toronto. He was my "Harbinger of Spring". Oh, how I miss those innocent days.
