I may have to use turbo tax to file self employed. anyone know of a place or person who can walk me thru it to make sure its all there? I dont want an audit.

my ex has no income to file. per court my papers state married single. But Im legally separated last yr and he wont have a tax claim, so per judge I could file single. tax people say the wording is way to difficult so they think if I get audited it will be an issue then.

Im frustrated.

Ive already spent an extra $400 to lawyer to just see if I could get wording changed. he sees no reason for it but he is not a tax guy

Im 45. 1st H I left in 2001 after 3 kids. narcassist.

Call the IRS and ask. If you don't like the answer call back you may get one you like.

Record the time, date, and agent badge (it is my understanding that all calls are recorded, so proof that they told you what to do).

I found lots of information on the IRS site, including legal separation info. Search irs.gov for divorce and/or legal separation.

someone sweetly sent me irs info here that states I can indeed file as head. I sent that to my tax guy who says I should follow 4 guidelines, not just one. but even turbo tax says I can do it. they ask me questions and put it in what I should do.

i think its a waste of money to even had my tax guy have it changed! but then again if audited that would suck.

Turbotax tells you your audit risk level at the end too. If you are high risk maybe pay for the audit protection portion.

turbo tax is awesome, I've used it for years. Never had a problem and you just go through the program and at the end you print your returns and sign. Easy peasy.

Be sure to get the one for self-employed, though, there are a number of different versions.
