Was anyone else here dumb enough to buy a timeshare????

Mine is on the Island of Kauai which should be all "woooo" and all but it has been a nightmare. It was not built up to standard and there is this water incursion fee bull shit that I've ended up having to pay a mid four figure sum for on top of paying the damn thing off in the first place. In Hawaii they won't even allow these to be sold because of all the legal wrangling. All I gotta say is Diamond Resorts suck and is full of assholes (sorry if you or a family member works there).

ArrrrgggghhhHH!

My parents own 4 or 5? Its a real shame, because of all the money they spent on those, they could have purchased a real condo somewhere, rented it out 11 months of the year and stayed 1 month, themselves. When they pass on, the timeshares will be abandoned, as I have neither the time, nor the money to use them. It's their money, and they are happy, but I think it's a shame.

I probably would have been one who was eventually interested in timeshare. However for our trips to Florida, when looking for places to rent I did a lot of research and came across SO MANY time shares for sale for $1 on Ebay that I knew there had to be an issue. People just want out of them as fast as possible.
PJ have you used http://www.tug2.net/ ?
It's an online forum of timeshare owners. There might be a small fee for some areas of the site, but the idea behind it is timeshare owners who give you all the ins and outs of these places. I know I have seen Diamond mentioned there. People may have some suggestions or answers for you on the forums.

I have been trying to help my mother sell her Disney World timeshare for over a year. She and my dad were about to lose their house and we couldn't get the effing timeshare to go away! What is up with that??!!

Hey! Anyone want a timeshare in Florida?

Everyone I know who has a timeshare has a horror story to go along with it.

I had a timeshare with Hilton, and I don't have anything negative to say about Hilton - I loved staying at their properties. Their timeshares are yours forever and you can leave it to your kids (or whoever) in your will. Mine was set up on a points system and you could use the points at any of their resorts or hotels or transfer them over to RCI. It really wasn't a bad deal. The yearly fees add up though. You can sell timeshares - I did - on the TUG website mentioned earlier. You take a big loss over your original price. I just can't afford the yearly fees or to travel right now, so I decided to sell. It took me over a year.

If you're thinking about buying a timeshare, for sure check it out on TUG - it's a lot cheaper to buy there than buying it from the developers.

My timeshare is in the RCI system thank God. It's so unpleasant to go to the one we own due to the legal problems. The staff there is so nasty to the owners but sweet as pie to "guests". It's such a damn racket. I won't go back there until this legal situation is fixed. And I certainly won't sell this albatross to anyone under these conditions. So I bank my weeks and go elsewhere.

My friend owned a timeshare and it wasn't worth squat. She wanted to unload it to at minimum be free of the fees.

She ended up donating it and got a huge write of on her taxes...

She would have never made her money back and was really just interested in unloading.

The write off at that point was a bonus.

oh man...my XH wanted to get a time share and i am SO glad that i talked him down from that cliff.

I have friends that have them, and I honestly haven't heard of them being bad. But then, if they are embarassed, they may not bring it up.

The owner of a company I worked at couldn't go to his a few years in a row and actually gave his time to employees that were nominated for working hard, ect.

I am so sorry that you are having such problems

My parents have two through Wyndham and they LOVE it. They have the points system too. All the resorts are first class and in the best locations. Apparently Wyndham went around buying places up and then remodeled/updated everything. They use theirs all the time.
