I have MC on Monday and would like to bring up the subject of talking to the kids about the truth. My WH had a LTA affair and I would like our 11 and 8 year olds to know that there is a reason that I am wanting to divorce their dad. I don't feel comfortable lying or saying that we no longer love each other. Is there an age-appropriate way to tell the kids without throwing him under the bus? What has worked with others?

My DD15 (who mentally is like an 8 yr old) her IC talked about the language of broken promises and secrets and a marriage is not a place for either. With that being said- DD15 is the youngest of 4. Others in their 20's and she has heard them reference dad's girlfriend.

"When people get married they make promises to each other. Daddy didn't keep his promise and it makes Mommy sad. Mommy doesn't want to be sad anymore, so she and Daddy will be living apart. This has nothing to do with anything the children have or have not done"
