My girlfriend's husband suffered an aortic dissection on Friday afternoon. It's a miracle he's still alive! He made it to the hospital, it was diagnosed correctly and he underwent 7 hours of surgery to repair the damage. He is in critical condition and has had some setbacks. Low grade fever, and today declining function of both kidney and liver.

You guys are the best at sending up healing prayers. If you can spare the prayers, we really need them! His name is Dave.

Praying for Dave and family!

Prayers and mojo.

Not unusual for kidney function to decline, even to the point of needing dialysis from this. Especially if he went a long period of time with a low blood pressure. Usually function returns as the body heals and recovers.

((((and strength)))

T/n
Thanks for that information! That is very encouraging. I am sure they had him on a lung and heart machine the whole time during the surgery. They had to cut out the bad part of the aorta, wrap mesh, etc. I sure there was much more involved as the surgery went on for 7 hours.

Thanks for the prayers everyone!!

Sending prayers too.

My uncle suffered this too. It was touch and go for awhile. But it has been 6 years now and he is doing great.

lots of healing thoughts! lots and lots of them!

sadtoo posted 2/17/2014 14:01 PM

Update: Dave is holding his own blood pressure today. oxygen levels are better, only dependent on ventilator 45%, the drugs are working and lots of fluids came off. Temp is down this morning. He needs to wake up and recognize everyone. Kidneys and liver function needs to improve and he needs to respond to outward pain. He has a long way to go, but it seems things are heading in the right direction.

Thanks so much for the prayers and good thoughts!! I know Dave's family appreciates it.

Sending healing energy Dave's way. My father survived an aortic dissection in 2007, so very scary. Wishing him and his family the best.

tushnurse posted 2/17/2014 16:28 PM

Sounds like he is doing well.

One of the patients that I bonded with the most was a guy who drove himself to the ER for back pain, while he was actively disecting. It was a long long road for him, due to multiple unexpected issues, but I can honestly say he was one of the miracles I have witnessed.

I hope your loved one progresses quickly, and recovers soon.
