6yrs -- yep 6yrs-- 2008-- My entire world exploded that year. My M died, I got laid off, My FIL died, one of my fur babies died, filed bankruptcy and many many other things. The biggest and longest lasting fallout has been the financial ramifications. I've slowly, oh so slowly been rebuilding my credit.
Today, I went to a big dealership and bought a car that I WANTED. It is used but much newer than my 13 year old, barely hanging on car. I was able to put half down and get financed at a reasonable interest rate on the remainder.
silly thing to be sooooooo happy about but I am. this has been a goal for a long time for me. new beginning, new to me car....C H E C K!
But that's just a lot of water
Underneath a bridge I burned
And there's no use in backtracking
Around corners I have turned

CG --- yep! it worked out.
and better than that so far its great.
Its not the first car I've ever financed but its the first major bank financing since the D and corresponding bankruptcy
My credit still isn't great but at least I can get a car financed now.
In odd sort of bit of irony. I just realized that tomorrow is DDay antiversary.

Its a 2008 Audi A4. Low miles and much needed all wheel drive. Got a great price. Better than the Subarus I was looking at. VERY HAPPY

Yay! Such a great achievement!
One day I too will buy a car (again) under my own steam. My first 'brand new' car experience was ruined by x. One day, after I stop free falling
I will have my 'first brand new car' experience authentically. Until then I will be happy with every step up I take on my own.
Such a good feeling to achieve great success despite what your x has done.
Well done!

Good for you! YAY! I'm going to be driving my geriatric Jeep til it goes toes up.....but that's okay, I love it. I hope you get the same loyalty from your new (to you) Audi as I've gotten from my Jeep. I've become very emotionally attached to this vehicle, and I don't think I could ever part with it. (it was my first "bought it on my own" vehicle purchase too)
