Is anyone else fairly foaming at the mouth with readiness for the "Outlander" tv series starting this summer on Starz?
I've loved those books since I first read the first one as a teen/young adult. I think Jamie was my first "love" and I can't wait to see it on screen!

CAN. NOT. WAIT!!!!

Have you see the pictures of the guy playing Jamie???

GabyBaby posted 3/19/2014 18:08 PM

I went onto the Starz site and scoped the various cast members.
Claire is gorgeous.
Jamie (though I don't usually go for redheads) is that rugged manly man that I find so yummy you could plop him on a plate and soak him up with a biscuit!

Foaming. At. The. Mouth.

I'm excited, but also worried.....what if they screw it up? And the books are so long, what if they leave out too many characters, or plot points? Worst of all....what of they add NEW stuff?????

So I'm cautiously excited. Because I will be SERIOUSLY pissed if they screw it up!

GabyBaby posted 3/19/2014 19:56 PM

I'll be pissed too, but I'm cautiously optimistic.
From what I've browsed on her Facebook page, Diana Gabaldon has been involved, so maybe she'll keep them in line.

Here's hoping!!!

Me!

I've been following the progress of this series since it was announced. The books came to Ron Moore's attention because it's his wife's favorite book (she's in charge of costumes BTW) and he's stated that his job as producer is "to not screw up" her books! And yes, Diana Gabaldon is being consulted throughout filming (she's even filmed a little cameo role for an episode!).

That said, they *are* adding a bit (expanding the role of one or two characters to flesh out life in Scottish clans, a bit more about Frank and Claire's marriage, and Claire's role as a WW2 nurse, etc.). But there are not going to be any substantive alterations to the story. Ron Moore had been pretty adamant about that from the beginning.

One interesting thing they're doing (and my only concern) is that they are going to have a lot of Scots Gaelic spoken in various scenes, with NO subtitles to translate. The intent is to reflect Claire's first person perspective of being in 18th century Scotland and not always understanding what's being said around her. I think it's a great approach creatively, I'm just worried that people will be turned off by this and give up on the show... But quality wise, everything I've seen about the series thus far has me feeling reassured that we fans of the books will not be disappointed...

My only disappointment - summer is taking too long to get here!

I'm giddy with excitement. I've watched the trailers over and over. I'm not worried the chemistry between Sam Heughan (Jamie) and Caitriona Balfe (Claire) is amazing. Plus Starz basically told Ron Moore to not change much and to make the series for the fans of the books and new fans will follow. DG was consulted on changes and from what I've read agrees with them. The opening will be slightly different and we'll see Claire during the war and some expanded scenes of her and Frank just to give a better idea of their relationship. I'm super excited!

Thank goodness!!

I LOVE this idea, but it may turn off some. I think the true fans (and there are a shiteload of us) will be just fine with it though.

The opening will be slightly different and we'll see Claire steering the war and some expanded scenes of her and Frank just to give a better idea of their relationship.
I think this will be pretty cool and doesn't stray too far from the books.

Come ooooooooon summer!!!

At least we'll get MOBY June 10th before the show. That's something anyway. :)

Big fan of the books, although I came late upon them (about a year and a half ago) I'm all caught up now!!

GabyBaby posted 3/21/2014 17:23 PM

I am (yet again ) listening to the audiobooks at work and reading the physical books at home.

Love, love, LOVE this series!

gardenparty posted 3/21/2014 20:15 PM

Did not know this was happening. Am positively over the moon with excitement now. Jamie is beautiful as are the rest of the cast. Now I just have to convince my SO that this is a must watch series for us

childofcheater posted 3/22/2014 12:51 PM

I also listen to the audio at work also. I'm almost done with The Fiery Cross right now. I'm enjoying listening to this much better than I did initially reading it. That was the only one that was hard to get through. Dragonfly is still my favorite. :) Davina Porter narrates these so well! I don't know how she does all the voices and accents without missing a beat.

I'm halfway through the first book. Looking forward to the series.

childofcheater posted 5/8/2014 22:13 PM

Did you hear? They finally announced the premier date! Saturday, August 9th!! :-) it's really happening!

GabyBaby posted 5/8/2014 23:00 PM

I hadn't heard! Woohoo!!!!!!!

abbycadabby posted 5/9/2014 09:51 AM

AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!

cayc posted 5/9/2014 17:25 PM

I both want to see this, and equally don't like the actors they've chosen. Especially Jamie. That actor isn't nearly as imposing as Jamie was always described. Won't stop me from watching though

GabyBaby posted 5/9/2014 17:28 PM

I think I like Claire, but I'm on the fence about Jamie. I agree that he doesn't look powerful enough.

I'll be ordering Starz for the duration of the show's season in early August, hehehe (and promptly cancelling it after the season).
