We were on vacation this week, at a resort, really fun, good feelings all around. We were checking out and the woman in front of us had on a t-shirt that said, 'Got love? Adopt.'
I said to her, 'I love your shirt! We've adopted two greyhounds. I love rescues.'
Then as I finished saying it I realized that the shirt might be about adoption of children, not dogs! I felt terrible, and so stupid and insensitive.
She did reply, 'We have a golden'. So, I'm not sure if she said that because she was appalled and caught off guard at my sensitivity, or if the shirt maybe was about rescue dogs.
Then I thought that the word adopt had a heart for the O and if it was about dogs it would have been a paw.
Yes, this all went through my brain in the 5 minutes we were waiting to check out .
I said to H, 'OMG, I think the t-shirt is about kids, not dogs!' He said, 'Sometimes maybe you should just say nothing.' I definitely talk too much.
I hope I didn't seem like an insensitive idiot to her. I think adoption is wonderful, and I certainly wouldn't purposely compare child adoption to dog adoption. And God bless them if they did adopt a child.
Ugh, I'm such an idiot!!!
