AJ's MOM

Deeply Scared posted 4/16/2014 11:44 AM

"oh, my grandpa had these..."

ajsmom posted 4/16/2014 11:46 AM

The scary thing is...I probably still have AJ's packed away in some box.

Deeply Scared posted 4/16/2014 11:53 AM

I didn't have a Walkman but I did have this...of course it was 1975...lol!

I would sit up in our magnolia tree in our front yard and watch people walk by while listening to my music

OMG! I had one of those ball radios too! It was blue. I thought I was so cool

Deeply Scared posted 4/16/2014 12:02 PM

Of course you were cool Sad!! Anyone that had a ball radio was!

5454real posted 4/16/2014 12:08 PM

alright, we were the first family on our block to get a TV with a remote control!

I was the remote control. My father would leave the TV room, walk to the base of the stairs, whistle for me and tell me to come down to change the channel for him.

I didn't have a ball radio, but then again, I was born in '74. Am I still cool?

I did have a purple tape Walkman with a matching purple radio. I also had a CD Walkman.

Aubrie posted 4/16/2014 12:24 PM

I was born in 84. I had a tape Walkman. Wore that sucker out. Then Dad "upgraded" me to a CD Walkman. I thought I was all that and a bag of chips.

simplydevastated posted 4/16/2014 12:26 PM

Who remembers having this for their remote control?

Deeply Scared posted 4/16/2014 12:28 PM

SD...you most certainly ARE cool!!!

Here's a throw back for anyone over the age of 40...lol!!

I remember both my parents sitting down at the kitchen table deciding on whether to buy a VHS recorder/player or a BETA recorder/player

They were so expensive too!! Like almost a $1000.00 I can still hear my dad saying to my mom "well, only one is going to make it, we better choose the right one"

simplydevastated posted 4/16/2014 12:39 PM

Aw...thank you!

I vaguely remember beta. I think we had our VCR well after that.

How about this for gaming console?

I had the EXACT SAME TAPE DECK, DS!!! Same brand, same color. I used to listen to Beatle's tapes with it!

Another example of how we are twin daughters of different mothers!

I was the remote control. My father would leave the TV room, walk to the base of the stairs, whistle for me and tell me to come down to change the channel for him.

Same here, SAD. Again, must be a twin thing.

Deeply Scared posted 4/16/2014 12:48 PM

That's crazy AJ!!! I can't believe we had the exact same one...down to the color!!

Do you remember the Encyclopedia Britannica? Oh my gosh...another HUGE investment my parents made for us. Our salesman would drop off the monthly edition...alphabetical of course. My parents even got the leather bound set with gold leaf on the pages...they were living LARGE!!!

For kicks I just went to the Britannica site and it's all electronic now...I didn't see any actual printed versions. Oh my God I'm old

nowiknow23 posted 4/16/2014 13:07 PM

One summer I was bored, so I read the entire Encyclopedia set page by page from A-Z. Another summer I read the unabridged dictionary from cover to cover.

SD - We had that Atari! I kicked ass on the circus game where you bounced clowns off a teeter-totter to pop balloons. My favorite part was when the fell on their heads and their legs twitched.

My mom was telling me the other day that she saved up her pay checks for a really long time when she first got married to buy my dad a.. calculator.

I had a CD walkman. Who thought that was a good idea? Damn thing skipped every time you took a step

Ah! The encyclopedia! We had the Collier's version. I too spent the summer before junior high reading the entire encyclopedia. When I met my new best friend the first week of school, I found out she had spent the summer reading the dictionary. We're still friends.
