ok, so before I chop all my hair off, what do you all think? background... I went my entire adult life with a crew cut (military) til 09, then after getting out I let it grow. not sure what my deal is, if I thought I looked younger with no hair (and if I want to look older or younger), but anyway, here they are... (if I did it right..)

Honestly, I think that you look good in both pictures.
That said, I think that you fit more with the short hair then with the long.
What if you did something with more length?
You and David Beckham, Zac Efron, Ben Afleck....ect - have that very narrow oval face. You can actually pull off a more medium male cut.

I like the shorter hair! I think it's more flattering because it shows off your bone structure.

Chop it!
Both look good, but the shorter hair looks better.

My response is conditional: are you a Ren Faire kind of guy? If so, keep it long. If not, chop chop!

not sure what a ren faire kind of guy is. I had originally started growing it out to look a bit like Jake Owen, but after a few really horrible attempts to straighten my own hair, realized I'm just not the kind of person that can have hair that needs time preparing.

LOL, I feel the same way. Although my XX chromosomes do give me the ability to operate a straightening iron, my laziness prevents me from actually doing it most mornings.
I think the short hair suits you better, although you do look good either way. I tend to longer hair on guys, but not long-long - more at shaggy, kind of like Undefinabl posted but not so "done."

Just looked up Jake Owen. You don't need to straighten it, just go get a few layers! You are almost there and it would look great on you. If it doesn't work, then you can chop it all off

I think the danger of an in between length is it looking very 90's. The first thought I had when I saw that Beckham picture was Rob Thomas in the 90's. And please don't get those highlights! I had hair like that....in the 90's!!!! You catching my drift?

Oh yes, definitely looks better longer, just go to a stylist, let them know you don't want to spend time styling it, and get a few long layers in the front.

The middle picture is nice, the military cut is way too short.
You could probably do something like this. It's not too short. Talk to a hair stylist. They would know what would look good with the shape of your face.

ok, so I guess I'll try the stylist thing... I have done it a few times (going somewhere to have my hair cut), but I'm guessing the places I went (supercuts and the hair salon in walmart) are probably not the best place to go... So where should I go?

Please don't get offended but as I look at these I see something happening, your forehead is getting bigger......Which means your skull is growing, or your hair is not.
Personally I like shorter hair on men, and the older you get, and the less of it there is, the shorter it is the better it looks. Trying to keep it long to cover any recession is just icky.
Have you shaved your head before? With the Goat, and the dimples I bet you would rock that look.
BTW that's an awful lot of stuff on your chest there...... Thank you for your service Sir.

Find some kind of salon/day spa. They stylists at my salon are constantly going for training to keep up with trends etc...

I like the length in pic #1. Maybe add some long layers. More importantly, you should do what ever makes you feel good about yourself.
