Ok, there have been several references to retro video games lately. Some whispers of Princess Peach, a Contra comment, some talk of Final Fantasy in passing, and maybe a little too much Legend of Zelda references outside of F&G. (Qui, moi? )

So, I found Smooth McGroove a while ago, and I have to confess that I bip back to YouTube pretty often to see his latest performances.

NES. Sega. Acapella. It's mesmerizing for anyone who spent a more-than-average chunk of their child/teenage/adulthood pushing UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A, START. If you know what I'm talking about, check out some of these links. There are seventy songs. These are some of the more commonly known:

Tetris, themes A and B

Zelda- A Link to the Past - Overworld Theme Acapella

Street Fighter 2 - Guile Theme Acapella

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qwKCQ4M2Nw

Super Mario World- Overworld Theme

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndiD8V7zpAs

Sonic The Hedgehog- Green Hill Zone

Final Fantasy VI - Decisive Battle Acapella

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Wu9DnbzB8g

Final Fantasy X - Battle Theme Acapella

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXE7nJPhgv0

Super Mario Brothers 2- First Level

Punch Out- Fight Theme

Kirby's Dream Land - Green Greens Acapella

There are soooo many more. C'mon video game geeks - don't leave me hanging! Everyone else, humor me. I KNOW you played Tetris. Theme B is for you.

Oh. Em. Gee.

I'm flashing back to the dark days (and nights) of my Tetris obsession. This almost makes me want to dig out my NES and fire it up again...

DSD13 has been listening to music while on the computer and pretty regularly orchestral versions of the Zelda themes come on. Whenever I hear them I am instantly transported to my happy place.

My friend's kids (13 too!) have the 25th anniversary orchestral compilation too... I heard it recently and it gave me chills. Thank you for reminding me to look into it! (Smooth McGroove did the labyrinth theme from the original game.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9gEpzKKGXY )

Sonic Ice Cap, LOZ OOT - Gerudo Valley and Castlevania 2 - Bloody Tears are my favorites because I played the hell out of those games. I didn't reference them up there because I didn't think anyone would get it.

Right now, DD4 is playing Wind Waker on Wii U. When she needs help she hollers for me, I do the maneuver she's having trouble with, and she snatches the gamepad back. Gawd she reminds me of me.

Is it sad that we bought the special edition of Zelda: skyward sword because I HAD TO have the cd that was included? And bonus: DD got a special golden controller.

Thinking we may have to dig out the Atari again soon. Dig Dug anyone?

DIG DUG!!! I think I had my fair share of nightmares that I was hiding in dirt and colorful bugs were clawing through to find me...

ETA: Did anyone play M.U.L.E. ? I would know that music anywhere.

I say without a hint of humor: This game? Changed my life at 10-11 years old.
