So, I had kinda a rough day at work....bit of a headache when I left and today my sister picked my daughter up from daycare so I could go to the gym. Well...I decided to go home instead....called her up and offered to pick up Piper and she said to go on that she would bring her when she picked up her friend from work around 9 (they should be here any second)....

So...what did I do with my time you ask? Well....I didn't run......I started with my DVR...(But I do that every night) ..I didn't read...(my books are all packed up in my storage unit...OOPS....I will get to the Library ASAP to avoid that mishap again)....nope....kitchen cleaned...trash out....place vacumned....I spent the last hour and a half singing karaoke from Youtube videos!

Totally Free....sitting on my couch....beltiing out songs like "Jesus take the Wheel" by Carrie Underwood (which I nailed IMHO...and usually sound like a dying cat....but I've been doing a lot of steering wheel rehearsals) "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus (before all the twerking crap )"Before he Cheats" by Carrie Underwood "Who Knew" by Pink, "Happy" by Pharell Williams, "Without You" by Mariah Carey, "Everything I do I do it for you" by Bryan Adams "Hero" by Mariah Carey "I'll be there" by Michael Jackson "Over you" by Chris Daughtry etc etc... most of which I could put my heart into....and A LOT of which surprisingly had a strong connection with the lyrics....

It felt good to let loose and just release a lot of feelings....and in a positive way!!!!

I think you and Piper need to form a duet!

It sounds like a lot of fun! Glad you had some down time and let loose.

I just smiled because I pictured my "almost bald" 20 month old in the back seat of my SUV with her favorite big pink stuffed chihuahua named "Cancun" (and no I did not name him, the manufacturer did... ) bouncing him up and down in her lap making him dance while mommy sings the "Happy" song on the way to daycare!

It might seem crazy what I’m about to say

Sunshine she’s here, you can take a break

I’m a hot air balloon that could go to space

With the air, like I don’t care baby by the way

[Chorus:]

Because I’m happy

Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof

Because I’m happy

Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth

Because I’m happy

Clap along if you know what happiness is to you

Because I’m happy

Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do

[Verse 2:]

Here come bad news talking this and that, yeah,

Well, give me all you got, and don’t hold it back, yeah,

Well, I should probably warn you I’ll be just fine, yeah,

No offense to you, don’t waste your time

Here’s why

[Chorus]

Hey, come on

[Bridge:]

(happy)

Bring me down

Can't nothing bring me down

My level's too high

Bring me down

Can't nothing bring me down

I said (let me tell you now)

Bring me down

Can't nothing bring me down

My level's too high

Bring me down

Can't nothing bring me down

I said

[Chorus 2x]

Hey, come on

(happy)

Bring me down… can’t nothing…

Bring me down… my level's too high…

Bring me down… can’t nothing…

Bring me down, I said (let me tell you now)

Great Lyrics!! My daughter loves that song!

Shelly, I am a huge fan of music therapy, and am totally tone deaf when it comes to hearing my voice. So I sing like a dying cat as well. Plus I have a very low voice (sang tenor in the chorus for all the HS plays I was in).

But I can tell you that I have always sang in my vehicle. When my DD was about 22 months old she knew all the words, and sang along with me to Les Miserables. Yup nothing cuter than tot singing One day more, and Red. Now I'm not allowed to sing with her, because I am so awful, and she is so freaking awesome.

I think you did something very wonderful with your time alone.

Oh yes, music is SO good for the soul. But these days I have to be careful what I listen too- a lot of triggers... But I love to sing. Not in front of people mind you, but just for myself and it soothes me.

Had an eye opening convo with WH the other day about song lyrics. Apparently he never even notices lyrics!! He has always seemed to like music, has it playing all the time when working on projects. But to pay no attention to lyrics? That explains so much!

Yes....when I was singing a few of the songs.... especially "Hero"... the lyrics became so profound to me.....I almost cried while singing them....but it made me that much better because I became passionate about the song....

"Hero"

There's a hero

If you look inside your heart

You don't have to be afraid

Of what you are

There's an answer

If you reach into your soul

And the sorrow that you know

Will melt away

[Chorus:]

And then a hero comes along

With the strength to carry on

And you cast your fears aside

And you know you can survive

So when you feel like hope is gone

Look inside you and be strong

And you'll finally see the truth

That a hero lies in you

It's a long road

When you face the world alone

No one reaches out a hand

For you to hold

You can find love

If you search within yourself

And the emptiness you felt

Will disappear

[Chorus]

Lord knows

Dreams are hard to follow

But don't let anyone

Tear them away

Hold on

There will be tomorrow

In time

You'll find the way

"Sometimes your knight in shining armor ...is just a douchebag in tin foil!!"

Great therapy, music. And singing is the best. My whole family (including my kids and their kids) are singers. We are all always singing, whistling or humming. I was in the Glee Club at university, and I fully remember how rehearsals could drain away all the negativity from my day, no matter how bad it had been. I plan to buy a karaoke machine for my country house. We're far enough away, the neighbours won't hear us!
