I know so many people think I'm crazy for having 4 dogs, but they are really the only things that I can count on in my life.

Last night, I woke up in the middle of the night to find one of the snuggled up tight against me, sound asleep. He was from the shelter, and his walls are nearly as high as mine.

I rubbed his head for a bit. He never quit snoring, but his tail stump wagged the entire time.

I guess it's the love with no expectations, no demands. Just pure joy that we get to live together and hang out. It's mutual joy, I guess.

What I'm trying to say is that we all find peace in the most unexpected times and places.

Oh this gave me a lump in my throat.

My skittish girl rescue cat trembled 24/7 for the first few weeks. We are a year out and I often wake to find her being my big spoon or curled up in my arms. If I move or open my eyes in the night she starts purring loudly and grooms me. My big boy sleeps with his paws tangled up in my hair and face nuzzled into my head.

Their purrs are more like roars at these quiet times. I could weep for the beauty of the moment. Pure joy. Trust. Love.

Right now I have my rescue from 11 years ago and my daughters kitten as she is away. The don't like each other much, but are taking turns sleeping with me.

Fun.

I told Little Dude just this morning that everything I went through with xWH was worth it since it brought me my little guy!

Having our own houseload of furbabies, I completely understand and agree with your sentiment.

They truly give us so much...and ask for so little in return.

I love furpeople!

I am so happy you have them Williesmom!

I know with my husky rescue, I get so much joy out of watching her run full tilt in the backyard and then run up to me and play bow.

I love that she knows I'm about to go upstairs to bed...I go to the stairs and she's right there with me, walking up the stairs, curling up in her bed in my room. I. Love. That.

So happy your furbabies bring you such joy.

I loved sleeping with my first mastiff when the X wasn't home. She snored like a muffled chain saw and chased imaginary who-knows-whats in her sleep, but I felt so safe with her around. My 160 lb lap dog

My "divorce dog" is almost always at my feet. I can just reach down and pet him and we both fall a little more in puppy love (although now he is 18 months old!)

great post.

Aaawwww.....your post makes me smile. We get so much from our furbabies and they ask so little in return. My shelter rescue, after he totally destroyed the house as a puppy, turned into my best dog ever. He is exceedingly intelligent, understands what I say, has boundless energy, and is very protective of his pack.

I give him stuffed animals from time to time. If he has one he really likes, he will sleep with it in his mouth for weeks before finally ripping it to shreds....

aww, thats great. Glad things are going well and you can see the little things in life to smile.

Im there too. Its really great when our path becomes cleared.

My big guy made the move down with me and he's been pretty clingy in the new environment.... He's made himself home on the kingsize bed like he did in Okieland...

Like all of you... I've got a stronger bond with my big guy because of the backstabbing I was subjected to by the ex...

Love this - my dogs are a handful at times, but I couldn't survive without them. They sleep on the other side of my kingsize bed every night and are always here for me. <3

Yes! Love these happy posts.

I can't even imagine getting through the last year without my dog. He's licked away many, many tears, and made me smile on days when I was sure I couldn't.

Absolutely trustworthy, loyal, unconditional love. It feels so good.

Bluebird26 posted 5/9/2014 04:59 AM

Oh that is so sweet.

I am jealous though. My oldest DS is highly allergic to all fur & feathered babies. It's not fair. It's harder for him he loves animals just can't be near them.

marlie2014 posted 5/9/2014 09:20 AM

I feel the same! I have a white Boxer and also a black cat with white paws. My Boxer is such great company. Every morning he leans against the back of my leg as I'm putting on makeup and getting ready for work. He also sways his backside underneath the dresses in my closet...I think that's how he 'pets himself.' It's hilarious.

I'm so glad that the STBX left him, and the cat, with me. It's the one decent thing he did, although I think he might have taken at least the dog if he had a bigger place to live.

Williesmom posted 5/9/2014 13:44 PM

I'm so glad that so many of us have fur babies.

Everyone laughed when I made sure that "all owned pets" were to be mine in the MSA. I wasn't going to risk that!
