So my daughter was talking to my sister's boyfriend (sister lives with me.. her boyfriend's really nice, kind, intelligent, good guy) and she said "Why do I have to go to my mom's house? I want to spend more time with my dad." And he asked, "Why don't you want to go over to your mom's house? Isn't she nice?" And she said, "Yeah, she's nice, but I like my dad more."

(I wasn't in the room.)

Game over, I win!

God love our little ones. And good for you!

DD7 handed me a similar treasure on Valentine's Day. XWS had given her an expensive necklace from Tiffany's. I told her I had gotten her a necklace, too, but it was not as fancy.

Her reply: "yeh, but you got me chocolate, and that's all I really care about. Besides, I think you love me more than Dad does."

I kept my cool, and replied that her Dad loved her with all his heart just as I do. Inside, however, I was weeping tears of joy.

I realized in that moment that as deep a hole as he carved in my soul, that is the depth I can feel joy.

Our kiddos do get it. They really do.

I don't know if my chicken will ever become an eagle. But rest assured, I'm going to be a phoenix. Nevermind that I am still in the ashes stage of the process.

Update...he
