After being on a waiting list (elective surgery) a couple of years, it looks as if I'll be having eye surgery next week. I've had a pterygium growing on my left eye for many years and it's getting to the point where it's growing into my iris and causing me to have a bit of double vision, especially going downstairs. Now, I can fall downstairs quite nicely without the pterygium, thank you very much, so it must be removed. The surgeon has a cancellation for next Wednesday, just days before the start of our Victoria Day Weekend. I have a crowd of people coming to my country place for Saturday and Sunday. Eeeeek!!!!!

Has anyone had this surgery? If so, what were your experiences post-surgery? I have been reading internet accounts and it's got me scared. I'm not a great pain person. Will I be able to deal with the pain + a houseful of rowdies?

I've not had the surgery, but sending you lots of good vibes for a seamless surgery and healing!!

Thank you, Lala. If it goes well, I can look forward to having white sclera (and not red) and no itching in the inner corner of my eye! That will be worth it!

Sending you mojo and good thoughts.

Thanks, jo2love. It's minor surgery, and I believe done under a local. But I can cry from a paper cut. I don't want to spend my weekend with my friends, crying in my bedroom.

No experience... but lots of good wishes for a successful surgery and a quick, painless recovery!

I have had three cornea surgery before. You will be very sore and need good drugs and sunglasses afterwords. The day after my surgeries the pain was much more mild.

When reading your post I had to scroll down to see where you're from. Waiting lists? Piffle!

Elective surgeries=waiting lists, alas, pj44. I understand the initial pain is bad plus the eye feels like there's something stuck in there (there is!) for a while. Got my sunglasses and billed cap packed!

Thanks, jrc. Someone told me I'd be dizzy for a while. I replied that according to my best friend, I've been dizzy for years!

For those who asked, my surgery went well yesterday. Saw the surgeon this a.m. and he says the eye looks great. It's bloody uncomfortable, but I'm treating that with Tylenol and Advil. Also, I look like a pirate. But I must be a good pirate because my eye patch is white.

I'm so glad it went well!!! Yay for the good pirate! I hope it heals quickly.

So glad to hear all is well.

One of my cohorts has eye surgery tomorrow, and she is freaking out. I will let her know you had something much worse, and are still alive and well.

Now we need to get you parrot to go with the Eye Patch, oh and a bottle of rum, that will help with the eye pain too.

lynnm1947 posted 5/15/2014 14:33 PM

Oh the rum is already bought. God help me, my guest list (thanks to the S/O) for Saturday night now numbers 14 and I'm making planter's punch as the pre-dinner cocktail.

Thanks, all. The famous SI mojo works again. I was supposed to see the dr. again tomorrow, delaying our departure for the country. When I saw him today, he says everything looks so good, I won't need a check-up tomorrow!
