So, I googled why birds repeatedly run into windows and I guess it is a territorial thing. They see their reflection, think its another bird trying to take over and WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! But good grief, little buddy...when will it be enough for you? Must have a headache by now!
I have put some things in front of the window but I can still hear it downstairs!
Anyone else?

I've heard to put a fake owl or some sort of predatory bird in front of the window.
It's sad. We have hummingbirds that fly into my office building and die. I saw three lying dead on the ground one morning. That's a real buzzkill.

Yah I hang papertowels on some of ours that they seem to attack.
Last summer we had a goldfinch that would come and play with our cat on a daily basis. He would sit on the ledge of the bay window, chirp until our cat heard him, and then they would play, he would flutter up and down, and she would slam herself against the glass to kill him, they would do this for about 15 minutes, then he would go away, and then come back in a few hours. This went on from the end of May until the end of October. It was hysterical. If the cat was bored, she would wander over and look around for him too. It was really funny.
We keep wondering if he will be back this year.

YES!! This bird brain has been banging the window for about a month now. She built her nest under the deck and now comes onto the deck a couple of times a day to attack the window. It is driving us NUTS. Last weekend DD put one of the couch cushions in front of the window. So what does Bird Brain do? Goes around to the front of the house and attacks a window there! we can't win.

Robins do this.
It helps if you can get some reflective streamers or aluminum foil on the outside of the glass. They'll stop in a few weeks.

There are also bird-shaped decals you can stick on your windows.
