So, I'm leaving town for about 5 weeks this summer to go home and see my family. I was concerned about leaving my house for so long. I have a couple of friends that would check on it, but both are also planning extensive vacations. We've had some plumbing issues in recent months, so I always fear a pipe bursting or something. I was thinking of anyone else I could ask other than the Gnat. I don't want him having access to the house while I'm gone.

I go to church yesterday morning and was chatting with a good friend. He just got out of a long-term relationship with his partner. They owned a home together and he can't get his money out of the house for awhile. (He has to wait for the re-financing process of his ex-partner). He also had a recent emergency surgery and expensive dental work that has kind of put him in a temporary hole. He's saying that he can no longer afford his apartment and is having trouble finding a roommate that is normal and willing to take his dog. Then a light bulb went off in my head.

I asked him if he's like to move into my place for July and August. I told him he didn't need to pay rent as he'd be helping me out a great deal. Just to have someone at the house, watering the plants, and caring for the pool. I don't need to hire a pool guy now. We'll be gone most of the time anyway and will only have to live together for about 3 weeks. He got tears in his eyes. He said that that would help him get back on his feet immensely. He could get himself out of debt in those two months and get a better place in the fall.

Then, I was talking to X-MIL last night as well. I just happened to mention in conversation that I'm flying to see family alone with my DD (6) and DS (almost 2). I'm worried about my DS as he's finally hit the terrible twos. It's going to be a nightmare flying with him, but I keep telling myself it's only a 3 hour flight. Well, MIL that lives in another state says "why don't I just come down and fly with you. I'd like to see the kids and your family, anyway". I was thrilled! Things have been somewhat awkward due to the circumstances, but she really has been good to me. She wants to remain on good terms for the kids and she's always gotten along with my family. It may be unconventional, but I'm glad that it works in the kids' best interest.

Anyway, feeling a lot less stress about this trip now.
