Just killed my FOURTH House Centipede this morning!!!

That is FOUR TOO MANY!!!

HOW do you exterminate these disgusting things other than Orkin???

BLEEEEEECCCCCHHHHHHHH!!!

Lucky2HaveMe posted 6/20/2014 09:08 AM

Basically we were told you can't! The good news is they eat spiders & other creepy crawlers.

Sorry I can't be of more help.
We were told some *preventative* steps like moving mulch away from the foundation, dehumidifier, etc.

I often wondered if those sticky pad mice things would work - but we have cats and I was afraid they would get stuck themselves.

lynnm1947 posted 6/20/2014 12:48 PM

I won't let my SO kill them because they eat other not so nice things around the house. One day, one skittered in front of me and before I could think, I slammed my foot down on it. Spent the rest of the day apologizing!

purplejacket4 posted 6/20/2014 16:35 PM

I would rather have spiders. I learned on buying Hawaii that chickens eat them.

Guinness23 posted 6/20/2014 17:05 PM

You all have NOT helped.

These things are ugly. Spiders are ugly. Why the hell can't we just get rid of ALL of them at our doorstep???

Be glad you don't live in Hawaii. We have HUGE 6 - 8" long centipedes that bite. The bites are horribly painful. I've been told the only treatment is a 5th of Tequila. Taken internally, of course.

Borax sprinkled in front of doorways and windows does a decent job of keeping the smaller centipedes (and some other nasties) on the outside. I thank the heavens every day that I've never seen one of the big blue or red ones in my house. I've seen a 5 inch red one outside my house though. Ick.

HOLY SHIT!!!!!

I HATE bugs but always wanted to visit Hawaii. Let me re-think that....

These are called Alligator Ticks (Giant Water Bugs) they live in fresh water...

We saw one Wednesday at Typhoon Lagoon...

i have given up all plans to ever travel to hawaii or florida. ever.

CheaterMagnet posted 6/20/2014 20:42 PM

But we have these too!

Myname posted 6/20/2014 20:46 PM

I would guess that since they eat other bugs maybe concentrate on getting rid of the other bugs and they will go away. I don't know.

CheaterMagnet posted 6/20/2014 21:09 PM

Bugs in Hawaii are a way of life. You just get used to them. We live on a coffee and macadamia nut farm. We have bugs. We also have wild chickens who eat a great many of the bugs, but we still have more.

I wouldn't live anywhere else even if you could promise me a bug and rooster free existence.

Amazonia posted 6/21/2014 05:04 AM

Raid Bug Barrier aerosol works on them. But be warned - they get poisoned, keep walk, then die, THEN their little carcasses dry out and are very crunchy when you step on them barefoot.

This reminded me of my honeymoon 20 years ago to my ExH. There was a bug in the tub in our bathroom on the top floor of the Grand Floridian at Disney World. I called room service to kill it.

Seriously, WHY THE HELL does the world NEED bugs?

To feed the frogs! Not really sure WHY we need frogs other than to eat the bugs...

Birds! Birds eat bugs... but again, not sure what else birds really do for us other than chirp at day break...

I think all of you had better go back to biology class.

CheaterMagnet, isn't that a millipede? I've heard they bite.
