Just reading jrc's thread "Frustrated by the numbers".

I had my "well woman" checkup at the doc today. On the verge of my 61st birthday I've packed on a few pounds around my mushy middle and she said my blood pressure reading is slightly elevated for the FIRST TIME in my life ever.

Aha.

15 years ago I skyrocketed to 20 lbs more than I am now. Faced the music, went low carb for a while and hit the weight room just as menopause was kicking in.

Lost the 20 and kept it off.

Now the creep begins.

FF has to cut back on the alcohol and salt (I don't eat a lot of junk but I do love my sea salt, and cabernet and craft beer call my name just a bit too often...) and kick it up a notch in the exercise department.

Time to get down to bizness on the yoga mat which has been gathering dust in the corner.

90 minutes of yoga gets me sweating like nobody's business and some of Sazzy's 15-minute quickie workouts leave me on the floor with muscle aches where I never knew I had muscles.

That and taking the long way home on my bike after work every day will probably get something moving.

I did it once, I can do it again, it's just never as easy as it was when one was younger.

Onward....

Sad turned me onto these.

Killer! And no equipment required for quite a few. Other than your body weight and an IPad...

There are others out there as well, just Google 15 minute workout.

But if you see "Fitness Blender Bootcamp" just run like hell away. Someone could get hurt...

Right behind you, FF, my twin + one year

Work is kicking my ass right now (that's why I'm up at 2am ) so I've been working out at home with my 15-minute workouts--I do a couple of them at a time. Full body workouts Tues & Thurs, then alternate upper and lower body on Saturday & Sunday. I walk 4 miles also on the days I do my weights.

I've also signed up for a color run in October, so I'm trying to get in a run at least 3 times a week. Yoga has been suffering. There's a class on the beach on Saturday mornings; the setting is gorgeous, but I don't like the teacher. Meh.

This way I can indulge once in a while in some nice wine and craft beer --and an occasional mojito

I am also 55 yrs old and have noticed a "creep upwards" on the scale lately.

I am eating a healthy diet (most of the time) and get a moderate amount of activity, but would like to see the numbers drop back down.

My problem is SO does a lot of the cooking and he doesn't always stop and think about fat content/calories when he prepares these wonderful meals. I try to eat a reasonable portion, but as we all know stuff tastes so much better when we don't have to cook it...that's why eating out at a restaurant is so wonderful!

I do a share of the cooking, and try to pack all my meals in a healthy way for work. I work 12 hr days so take all three meals.

I just find those few extra pounds are bugging the hell out of me right now.

When I ballooned it was when I was married to x, who is Mexican and loooooved to cook truly massive quantities of off-the-scale fatty salty greasy food.

I lapped it up for the first ten years along with gallons of beer, wine and margaritas.

Was about 128 when I met him and his family encouraged him to feed poor skinny little me. Doubt if I'll ever see that number again.

Nowadays I can fluctuate two or three pounds overnight, depending on how much salt and alcohol I've put away the day before.

When I cut the alcohol out, it tends to slide off pretty quickly, so I think that's my answer right there.

You can totally do this FF!

Badminton should burn off the most calories, so we could eat what we want. You would think laughing my ass off would burn tons of calories.

I'm totally stealing Sazzy's 15min workouts. Thank you.

Forgot to mention what my doc said when she inspected the lady bits.

"Your cervix is closed up. It happens with age."

Told her I wasn't surprised given six plus years on the bus...

So FF is officially closed for business.

Why can't the weight be as easy to keep off now as when we were 18?!
