DD22 and I were in NYC this past weekend apartment hunting (that is a whole other thread by itself).
I got to ride in a taxi for the first time in my 45 years on this earth, check that off the bucket list.
Upon entering said taxi, I found an iPhone on the seat. It's battery was dying, of course.
The front desk employees were nice enough to charge it for us as I have a 4 and this was a 5.
The phone is locked and we couldn't get Siri to help us, the fickle bitch that she is
This evening we went to our local Verizon store, this is the provider, obviously the service hasn't been turned off yet.
The sales guys were just so impressed that we were trying to find the owner! They just gushed about how nice it was!
What the hell am I going to do with a locked iPhone?
If it were my phone that was lost I would hope that someone would do the same.
Just like the dog I found last year, I am going to do what I can to find the owner.
Who knows, a week from now I may have an iPhone 5 that I can't do a thing with

I'm sure they were impressed for a reason; few people seem to return things these days, let along go through the lengths you went through to return them!

Character is what you do when no one is watching. Or expecting.
Clearly your character is a good one.

I think it's great you did that - I'm a phone misplacer from time to time
and I appreciate it when people make the effort.
One time I messaged my phone and my daughter on my Ipad and had my daughter message my phone that I had just lost at a convenience store 15 minutes before and they responded but I had to pay $100 to get it back. I was willing to do it, but I still thought it was not so cool because I never would have asked for a reward, especially 20 minutes after they found it.
Good karma lady!

Unfortunately not many people do the right thing anymore.
You could try handing it in to a police station. Someone may have reported it as lost/stolen.

ima, good for you for trying to find the owner!
If Siri is enabled, hold down the home key and try "call home" or "call mom". Voice calls can be set to work when the phone is locked. If you can leave a message you're good to go because you can answer a locked phone when they call back.

I think I found the owner!!!!!!!!!
Using, of all things, Facebook!
We have had the phone for 2 weeks, for the most part there were no notifications when the phone was turned on, until Tuesday night.
It started dinging and popping and making all kinds of noises.
Facebook tags and friend requests, messages, push notifications.
DS23 just suggested that I scroll through and try to figure out who this person is.
We found a message with her name and found Facebook messages from a couple of people with not common names.
I searched Facebook and found her!
I sent her a message, hopefully she responds!
