Maybe try intervals. You might want to check out www.noexcusesworkouts.com. Jonathan Roche has a very sensible approach to getting fit.

All's Well That Ends Well, Act I, Scene 1
I am 5'6" I know I need to gain about 10 pounds, but have to do it with excercise, because when you lose weight on the infidelity diet you lose muscle, I don't want to just gain back fat.
I just can't get motivated! I keep putting it off, I need an excercise buddy but live in the boonies and there isn't anyone to do it with.
elanaspantry.com has good recipies
oxygen magazine (workout mag) has daily menu's and grocery list. Im going to begin doing this this coming pay check.
I like frozen veggies bc they keep longer. I know fresh is better, but...
Soups are great. Easy, too.
You can also do pureed soups. Just use the water you cooked the veggies in to puree the veggies. Then you can add milk and seasonings if you wish.
I was watching the Dr's on CBS. They did this smoothy with fruits and added spinach to it. The family they dropped in on loved it (Montel Williams was the house invader).
YOu can add veggies along side breakfast eggs or in a omlete.
Veggies can be added in arroz con pollo (using jasmin rice or quinoa).
Thanks for the site. I do need to do something this year.
Ended up eating lots of Christmas cookies and my son took a picture of me on his cell phone. Man, I don't even remember how many chins I had...awful.
I believe I have the Wii Active (not sure haven't used it in awhile) but if that's what it's called I didn't really like it. I want a good workout and it just wasn't working for me.
Anybody have the Biggest Loser Wii games?
Life is a test. If this would have been a real life you would have been instructed on where to go and what to do.
A very sensible plan. Free workout plans, and NoExcuses plan to buy, quite reasonable, if you wish. I learned of this through Flylady, for those of you who might be familiar with her....
Decided I needed to take care of my health better after I discovered the infidelity/SA in my marriage.
Started at the gym and on a weight loss calorie regime on 3/13/2009.
Made my weight goal on schedule about 1 week before Thanksgiving.
Lost 74 lbs and 10" around the waist. Now at the same weight I was when I graduated from high school in 1960. Just in time for this summers 50th class reunion.
I continue my gym schedule and monitor calorie intake daily to maintain.
I have before and after pictures but I don't know how to post them
I am keeping my fitness blog again if anyone is interested in the link. I'm also doing the Couch to 5K program to get back into running in the slowest way possible.
Also, if you have an iPhone, there is an app for that C25k for $3.99, I think. I've also downloaded the Shape Flat Abs & Butt Lift apps for a nominal fee. Tonight I begin using them!
Oh, and did I mention I've had 4 co-workers suggest Medi-fast? They've all had lots of success on it and I caved and bought a month's worth of food to try it out. It's not bad, and I'm down 3lbs the first week.
I'm cautiously optimistic.
I have been trying to lose weight for most of my (long) adult life. As I said in another post, I'm a serial dieter. The infidelity diet only lasted for about a week with me, then I started my usual response to stress - eating and eating, and the sweeter and more "carbohyratey" the better. That, coupled with more opportunity for my innate sloth, now that I am no longer working, have resulted in yet more excess pounds.
I started on Jan 1st, though I had an unavoidable festive meal occasion this weekend, which probably undid all the good work so far. Still, today I am back on track. I have reacheed the age where I abolsutely cannot lose weight without exercise. We have various exercise machines, but I find the treadmill the best, because on the others I have to push myself (and I ahte it so I don;'t), whereas the treadmill pushes me because if I don';t keep up, I start to fall off! But the best for me, and the most enjoyable, is my bicycle. I love it! I used it a lot last summer, but once the colder weather came I stopped. But I got it out again at the weekend and plan to do treadmill or bicycling at least five days a week.

Stop, that is fantastic! What an inspiration! Esoecially for older women like me, as it proves that even post-menopuase, losing weight is not an impossibility. Congratulations to you!!!
Not_a_martyr I'm interested to see that you're doing the Couch to 5K program. I've loooked at the web site too and thought it sounded a really good idea. Are you doing it outside or on a treadmill? I tried it on a treadmill, but need to watch something to relieve the monotny and found I didn't have the coordination to watch a video, run/walk and keep an eye on the treadmill clock too! Maybe I'll try using a timer.....
I think your idea of posting weekly weight loss is a good one, Skylers_mom. I have ZERO desire to post my actual weight! But I wouldn't mind posting pounds lost. (If any - sigh)
Thank you, sullymeishadomi, for starting this up and encouraging us!
By the way, does anyone remember who the poster was who started an exercise thread in the summer? I wonder how she's doing. Maybe she'd like to post in this thread, too?

I started working out again today and need a support team to keep on the exercise and good diet plan. I will be on the thread daily to see how everyone else is doing.
I liked the idea of posting pounds lost too. Wish we could get a grid going or something that we could update weekly.
Thank you, sullymeishadomi, for starting this up and encouraging us!
Hmmm...I don't have a scale. My 2 yr old ds makes things disappear. I guess a weekly trip to Walmart is needed...or I can keep the scale at work and have my buddy (a guy) keep track of my progress. He's a great nag...
I have P90X. It is hard and most of the workouts are 60-90 minutes a day. I am going to try to build myself back to being able to do them-but I need to start a little slower since I have been out of the exercise life for awhile.
I have been running since D-day a week ago. I run until my lungs scream trying to get that runner's high! Perhaps I will wait til I am a bit more in shape before ordering the system. I am getting my new gym membership tomorrow.
Anyway the infidelity diet worked amazing for me ... ironic I know ...
d-day was 8-3-09 and I weighed 209lbs at 5'3 ...
today I am down to 170lbs and still 5'3 ... lol some things never change ...
I eat awful ... the first week after d-day I ate nothing and barely drank ...
I got around to eating once a day about 3/4 of what I used to eat in one meal ... and I was eating 3 times a day then ... I ate alot and all the wrong stuff at wrong times ...
Now I eat once a day whatever I want just WAY smaller portions and I eat nothing after 6-7 pm ... it really helps ...
I used to the things your so posed to in amounts your not so posed to whenever I wanted to ... and usually just go right to bed after ...
Now I don't do that ... but I don't eat healthy ... besides my one meal a day I eat cigarettes like they are going out of style and drink coffee like it is the only thing on earth to drink ...
My choices today are slightly healthier, turkey sandwhiches, wheat bread by sara lee th one with only 45 calories per slice, yogurt, fruit cups, slim fast shakes, grape fruit juice, cranberry/pomagrante(sp), the diet life waters, the Fuze drinks, diet sparkling green teas ...
And I was walking about an hour a day ... need to start doing that again ...
I plan to start walking again when school starts in Feb ... till then I have decided to lay around on my ass and keep trying to heal ...
It still hurts to be in public around people ... happy couples with babies ect ... blah blah ...
sorry I was kinda all over the place on this post ... but I am here ... Feb. 16th I start walking again ...
I want to loose another 40lbs ... I think 130lbs is a respectable weight for my height which is still just 5'3 ...
Is there anyone interested in participating whose goal is something other than losing weight? If not, i.e. if it's just all about losing the lbs then perhaps it would be more motivating to have one person tabulate the results and post them to this thread all together? I'm all for 'counting' the physical activity too, but I just can't think of a way to do it that would be feasible for us to "count" in a uniform, comparable way.
And/or we could pick a date, something like Jun 1 (beginning of summer) and plan on making it the final "results" day?
If this is going to be helpful, we have to have something, I hesitate to call it competition but at least something resembling accountability, otherwise it will turn wishy washy very quickly, at least imho,
