Why do I seem to be the only one who falls off the wagon when under stress? I am upset at myself. Friday was my anniversary, so of course that was a trigger, and then Fri morning we got word that we are going to have a major financial setback. To top it off I got sick with the flu, so the only thing I could think of that would make things better was food.

Can I get some 2x4's?

Ha. You aren't the only one. The week the little guy was sick I didn't work out at all b/c I was so busy and tired. That extended past that week and it was hard for me to get back to it. Still not as motivated as I was before.

Don't beat yourself up, and don't push your body when you are sick. I will still be here when you get better and we can do this together. I have a loose goal of May- I signed up for the heart walk in May. I don't have a defined goal of pounds or anything, I am just going to continue working the best I can until then and I will check my weight and see my progress then. I will be excited to see where I am at then. I already feel fabulous and people are noticing my baby tummy going away, or so they say.

I'm discouraged. I have been eating about 1200 to 1400 calories a day for 3 weeks and walking 30 minutes daily for the last week and I have lost ONE stinking pound. No inches whatsoever.

What the #$(&^&*^%?????

you're not...we've all been there...
I am upset at myself.
don't be...life happens...the beautiful thing is you can pick yourself up and start again...

I haven't been as motivated to hit the gym myself as much either. I've been sticking to the Atkins plan and have lost 3 lbs in 4 days (Induction Phase); I know once I incorporate swimming I'll become the incredible shrinking woman so I've made a commitment to myself that starting tomorrow, I will hit the gym every day after work and one weekend day. If I can stick with this brutal Induction Phase of Atkins, I can commit to one hour of exercise a day....

I have been eating about 1200 to 1400 calories a day
what makes up your calories? what are you heating? You should be getting at least 1500 cals per day so your body doesn't go into starvation mode and hold into the weight. That's what happens when you eat too little. I suggest you try www.dailyburn.com, set a profile and the site will tell you how many calories you should consume daily in order to achieve your weight loss goals...I use the site to track my carb intake.

we fall down but we get up...let's get up and do this guys!!!

I use dailyplate.com - a suggestion from Jessy- and I love it! Tell it how many pounds you want to lose over what period of time (I am 2lbs/week) and your height and weight and activity level, and it will tell you your daily calories needed for that goal and track your calories consumed and burned through exercise and show you a graph of how you've been doing. I love it!

I love swimming! Best workout ever, I wish I could use it for weight loss. I have to squeeze DVD or Netflix workouts in at 5am when the kids are sleeping, gym time is not feasible for now. The pounds will melt off you, lucky girl!

You guys are totally awesome! I am feeling better now and I think Ill join my Monday zumba class. Do you really think swimming is better than cardio? My gym has a pool that I can use, I have never been very motivated to use it though.

Thanks guys. I use fatsecret.com because they have an awesome app I use on my smartphone. I can track food and exercise there.

They actually suggest I eat 1700 calories a day, but I know from past experience that just isn't quite low enough. I have heard 1200 is the drop-dead lowest one should go. Think of all those years we thought a 1000 cal/day diet was optimal!

Most days I eat 60% carbs (veggies and whole grain) with protein and fat splitting the rest more or less equally. It's good fat, usually olive oil or whatever's clinging to the meat or lowfat cheese.

I suspect water weight since my ankles and feet swell up on occasion (my doctor is unconcerned).

I'm not discouraged enough to eat a donut, so that's something. When you get to be my age, 59, everything slows down anyway.

My weigh-in after following a high protein, lower carb diet for a week shows a loss of 1.5 lbs.

I feel a lot less sluggish, too. And, it's PMS week this week and so far it's not as bad as normal. For one thing, the scale went down instead of up.

So now I need to get back on track with my exercising and I'll be bathing suit ready before I know it.

Zumba is still awesome! I am trying to watch what I eat without counting the calories, yet. Everytime I get to the counting part, I get pissed and stop. So, I'm avoiding junk, and trying to make healthier choices.

I am so going to that website, dailyplate.com--thanks for sharing that!

I have not tried swimming as a weight loss tool, but I have a couple friends who tried water aerobics. They LOVED it.

Does anyone feel like if you miss a few days, you are right back to where you started?

I know that probably isn't true, but I feel like that every time I relax and don't go to the gym for a couple days and eat/drink what I want.

Sucks... I work so hard and feel so great, then two days of relaxation and I feel like a slug again.

Hey everyone! How has it been? I am still off the wagon unfortunately. A lot of financial stress is keeping me firmly in the eating category. (Can you tell I am an emotional eater?)

I think I need to target my stress coping skills before I attempt a diet again.

Great job inconnu!! Scale down...even during PMS is AWESOME!

Yep...and I need to get over that mentality. It's ok to fall off the wagon, as long as you get back up and hop right on.

I find that the best way to cope with stress...is through exercise. I feel SUCH a relief. I haven't been to the gym since last wednesday, right before the wedding madness and I'm sure I won't get to it this week. My eating has been less than stellar too, but I'm hoping back on the wagon! Although I reached my "dress" goal, I still have about 20 more lbs to lose and I definitely need to tone up.

Good luck to everyone!

I do. It's hard to regain that motivation when you take " a couple days off".

But you CAN get it back. You just have to do it. Don't dwell on your mini vaca, just get to the gym, or put in your DVD, and DO IT!

Oh, I don't mean with my motivation - I mean what my weight is and what my body looks like... I feel like I do two/three solid weeks of work, then take two days off, and bam - all undone.

I know what you mean, ssm. It is infinitely easier to add a pound than lose one, unfortunately. In happier news, I signed up for a yoga and a zumba class at night, so I don't have to feel guilty about choosing sleep over my 5am workouts. My mom has wonderfully agreed to pick the boys up every Thursday night so I can do it. Wednesdays are zumba, which if my XH followed the visitation order would be his overnights, but I will try and get a sitter for Wednesdays. I am excited! The classes end in May, the Thursday before the Heart Walk I signed up for on May 14th, that Saturday. The Heart Walk is my unofficial goal to check my progress, so that fits beautifully, I am excited! Go me!
