Does anybody use any apps on their phone to track exercise and diet stuff? I've got a droid and thought maybe it'd keep me more motivated to exercise, if I had a new app to play with. Say what you wanna say and let the words fall out...honestly

I'm starting treatment for my thyroid along with P90X doubles with swimming as my extra cardio. Going to try the Paleo diet I think.

crashnburn, thanks I'll check it out. I started a modified version of the Paleo, kind of a cross of that and Southbeach last week. Higher protein, lower carbs, but without going to extreme. That's one of the reasons why I wanted the app, so I could track how much protein and carbs I'm eating.
So far so good - down 2 lbs in a week. I'm sure it's all water, but I'll take what I can get.
sorry, Foghater, I have no experience with lap band. Say what you wanna say and let the words fall out...honestly

renee, there was a thread about those in Off Topic a while ago. if you look back far enough, you might still be able to find it.
hey jessy, I'm back too.
so...I actually got up early enough this morning to get in some exercise before I get ready for work. I'm going to ease into it though. I bought a 5 lb kettlebell and I'm trying a workout I found on the women's health magazine site. So far I can do about half the exercises. The rest I'm going to have to practice. There's one that I'm afraid I'll drop the kettlebell and break a foot.
oh, and I decided to use myfitnesspal to track my diet. it's set up to track calories, but I'm using it more to see how much protein and carbs I'm eating. I'm seeing that if I eat enough protein, I'm staying in or under the calorie allotment, and I'm not hungry. But once I get too many carbs, I keep eating. Which pretty much follows the pattern I knew I had. Tracking it just makes it harder to ignore. Say what you wanna say and let the words fall out...honestly

Hey so-crushed, welcome to the thread.
As far as getting started goes, I find that keeping a food journal really helps me be aware of what, and how much, I'm eating. When I first started keeping a food journal, it also showed me the patterns I have with eating - when do I reach for the junk food, what am I not eating enough of, and so on.
So I'd suggest doing something like that. There's a bunch of free sites online you could use, but a spiral notebook works fine, too.
Once you figure out some of your eating patterns, you can decide which bad habits you want to change. It's okay to start with a few small changes. Then when you're comfortable with those changes, make a few more.
As far as exercise goes, if you haven't done any regularly for a while, start with walking. Get yourself used to being more active again, then start thinking about what kind of exercise you might want to do. Do you like to dance? Zumba might be the answer. Would you rather be outside? Then maybe going for bike rides is what works for you. The key is finding something you like to do, so that it becomes a lifestyle change that you want to do, and not the dreaded "oh God, I have to go work out. kill me now" attitude.
Oh, and come back to post on this thread. We need to keep it more active, so we can all encourage each other more regularly. Say what you wanna say and let the words fall out...honestly

woot! tackled the machine o' death (aka elliptical) that sits in my living room and mocks me. I haven't been on it since I started working last March. I only made it 15 minutes, but hey, I'm happy it wasn't just 10 minutes, like I was expecting. Say what you wanna say and let the words fall out...honestly

Thanks so much! Love the idea of a food journal! As for things I like to do... walk my dogs and I haven't done that for quite some time.

I made it 30 minutes on the elliptical today. There was a lot of stops and starts, so the machine only registered 18 minutes, but I figure I was huffing, puffing and sweating for 30, so that's what really counts.
But now my goal for the next couple of weeks is to increase the time the machine registers during my 30 minutes, until I get to 30 in 30.
Oh, and I'm down another half pound, so I've lost 4 lbs in 2 weeks. Say what you wanna say and let the words fall out...honestly

I didn't get to do my usual weigh-in last week because I was off visiting my SO, but when I got on the scale Monday morning, I was the same weight as I had been on my last weigh-in, so all is good.
Now, to get back on track and find my motivation again.

Hi everyone!
I need to get back here - the last 2 years I've totally blown it - gained a bunch of weight and absolutely no exercise.
Time to put some focus back on taking care of myself, so I'm inching back in.
I started walking yesterday - 30 minutes. Baby steps, but it's a start.

hi brokenapart! Walking is a great way to start. There's a park with a nice walking path not too far from my work. I'm hoping for some cooler weather soon so I can get in a couple of walks a week, after work.
I did my weekly weigh-in this morning. I've lost 5.2 lbs since I started on my lifestyle change 4 weeks ago.
I'm still way more miss than hit with the exercise, though. So that's my goal to focus on for the next 4 weeks. Say what you wanna say and let the words fall out...honestly
