Looks like there's a few of us 40somethings here.
For anyone interested in the lemon detox you can find info here. http://www.lemondetox.com/
I read up on it before I tried it about 18 months ago. I didn't just read the testimonials on the site, I also read any other comments made that I could find online.
I found it easy to do although I didn't do the sea salt drink. I did it for 5 days last time and lost about 10 pounds I think. Problem is I did it just before Christmas (so it must have been about 13 months ago ) and didn't ease slowly back into sensible eating.
I suffer from a few skin allergies as well as hay fever. I found these issues settled down and didn't cause me any problems for months after finishing the detox. [This message edited by trying to smile at 3:40 PM, January 5th (Tuesday)] Good Women.

t2g, how's the heavy-duty exercising going with the Medi-fast? Do you have enough energy? My H wants to get back into shape for the Hotter-N-Hell-Hundred in August and I may suggest this as a kickstart for him, if it allows him to train like he'll need to. What do you think?
Exactly what I am doing - prepping for a long bicycle race. I have no noticeable decline in energy level but please keep in mind I am not typical as I am used to going on really long bikes rides (up to 20+ hours) at any given time. My goal now is to drop to a weight I can be more competitive. I plan to increase my calories once the outdoor cycling season starts. I think he should definitely give it a try.
I ordered the basic 4 week pre selected menu for the first time out...I am so excited....I cannot wait.
Did you use the $50 off coupon code? For anyone who is interested in ordering Medifast please PMt me and I can tell you what the current month's discount code is.
Check out Medifast -- it works!

PS - one of our fellow SI members is a Medifast success story on the website. I will let her chime in if she so chooses.
CheatedMale26 lost 85 pounds on Medifast last year and is looking suave.

Yeeee!!! Just what I needed to get me back on that wagon...I lost 40 lbs a little over 4 years ago and have managed to keep most of it off (although I did gain about 20 lbs back in mid 2007 but was able to get it off). All I did was decrease my caloric intake and increase my activity level. I will admit that I was a permanent fixture at the gym. I often found myself there at least 5 days a week. I still maintain a healthy caloric intake (no more than 1500 daily) and I try to stay as active as possible - lots of walking via parking as far away as possible from my destination, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. It helps to keep most of the weight off but I do want to get back into running. For those who are interested in beginning or restarting a running regime, I HIGHLY recommend the Couch to 5k program.
http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
It's a GREAT program and will allow you to gradually build your endurance.
Another GREAT site I love is Hungry Girl http://www.hungry-girl.com/ This site is definitely one of my faves...Recipes, restaurant guides, tips for switching unhealthy ingredients with healthy ingredients while preserving taste, etc. and it's all free. You can even get a daily email with good stuff...

I'm 44, and need to lose about 45lb too.
Looked at the Medifast site, and honestly, even if it does work, I don't like this program at all. I'm a big believer in getting your nutrition from foods that have been processed as little as possible, and what they are offering sounds like it's just opposite. That's why I'm sticking with WW - at least they let me choose where my food comes from

I concur but the reduction of my overall body weight in the immediate time frame is far more important to me. I have spent my entire life getting fat by eating foods laden with sugars and processed in/with extra fat. A 3-4 month stint on Medifast will not hurt me. The true work begins once I reach my goal weight and switch to a diet or whole, natural foods. Doing so will be a major lifestyle change for me. I was/am over weight for a reason.
FWIW - I work in the food processing industry and the WW foods are no less processed than any other food - even more so in many ways.

Congratulations on your experiment results -
I agree - I'm looking for something to "jump start" the weight loss.
A few years back I did the LA weightloss plan - (alot like weighwatchers)- I lost 48 pounds in about 6 months - you chose your foods - they just broke it down into food groupings and how many to pick from each group - it was fairly easy to follow - and it limited the number of (ready-made dinners).
It did start with a fast-start kind of detox thing and then the plan and I know it works and is healthy - I just can't seem to get started. (the fast start is no longer available as they went out of business - but, I have all the books and plans)
So, I was thinking something new to get me going might work.

So am I in the long run. although I am overweight I am extremely healthy otherwise, I am on no medications and have no allergies. For a two or three month span I don't see anything negative in this. I wouldn't do it long term however. It will be my discipline and choices to maintain my healthy eating and exercising habits.
I had lost alot of weight prior to and after D-DAY. Emotionally I couldn't R and focus on maintaining my weight. I think I am in a much better frame of mind now to do both. it doesn't matter where you go in life ,it's who you have the beside you Posts: 8493 | Registered: Jul 2008 |

Just chiming in to agree with the others. Frankly, the best eating plan I've ever followed was based on whole foods where available, lean protein sources, fruits & veggies, and no dairy or processed foods. That, however, requires a lot of time and planning on my part, and I don't have it to give right now. I've got to do something - now - and this is what fits my schedule. The other plan is what I intend for maintaining a healthier weight. After all, I know it works. me: 40

Today as I was leaving the Dr's office (son had 2yr checkup a little late), an older lady suggested I was pregnant. I tried so as not to make her feel bad, so I said, "Nah, Im just fat", but damd! If I didn't have the desire to lose weight before, this would definitely get me on track!
Thanks for the "hungry-girl.com" site. I'll check it out. I, too, prefer as natural as possible. I just bought a blender to make Montel's fruit/spinach smoothies.
Now for excersize...are there any medical people or pro's out there who can give me advice...I had a partial diskectomy btw L5-S1 almost a year ago, and unfortunately, due to getting left to do physical work by myself in the office, I hurt myself again (though, it's not as bad as pre-surgery). Someone mentioned pilates but I read sometimes pilates could make the back worse...any suggestions? (other than just walking). Thanks in advance... Posts: 7779 | Registered: Sep 2007 |

Do whatever you can exercise within the boundaries of your physical limitation. Anything you can do is better than doing nothing.
If you are having back trouble you may want to consider aquafit?
Also, I had many aches and pains when I was morbidly obese. However, now that I lost 70 pounds. I no longer gave those pains and I am capable of far more strenous activity. Me: FBS/WS 41

Thanks Maxiom. I was thinking the same (regarding the excersizing), but was hoping we had pro's here.
Aquafit...sad thing is here pools are not readily accessable. There is one at the gym but I can't get there bc by the time I get the kids and get there it's close to 8pm and the babysitting just closed.
I have to home gym it... Posts: 7779 | Registered: Sep 2007 |

I'm sure that's true. I'm not suggesting that any type of prepackaged food is better, more natural than the other. But the WW program doesn't make you to buy their food at all - you can prepare your own from whatever ingredients you like, which what I try to do. I'm not perfect or obsessive about it - on some days there is just no way I'm gonna cook from scratch, and I do have some prepackaged frozen dishes on hand, just in case. But WW is really all about portion control and eating "right", getting your 5 veggies/day, etc. They have that awesome recipe for a veggie soup that you can eat in unlimited quantities, and which I try to make with homemade broth and organic veggies, and it usually comes out so yummy that my whole family happily eats it.
I see the point of needing to lose the weight outweighing the drawbacks of eating all chemical for a while, but unless you are on the verge of having a heart attack, I wouldn't trade the quicker/easier weight loss for an increased risk for cancer or, worse yet, some weirdo intestinal problem down the road.
