West with the Night

It nagged him, in particular, that none of the girls hed known so far had given him a sense of unalloyed triumph.

Hi all,

It is Monday, so from what I understand voting is closed. (Yeah!!)Highest votes: Cruelest Mile and West of the night. Still feel it is important to get everyone's selection involved. Would it be okay if I compiled the list to make sure all the books are on it. New attitude and Summerbaby, please help me if I screw up. Here it comes
West of the night
Cruelest Mile
Long walk
Into the wild
Lady's life Travels west in Africa
Perfect Storm
Ladies life in the rocky mountains

I realize did not put any authors down, because just want to doublecheck people are willing to start with this. If you would like it alphabetized just let me know. Feedback is essential. So, here goes does everyone agree

If the voting is closed, shouldn't the selection already be decided by the majority?

Am I missing something?

Sorry, just trying to keep up.

The books have been listed in several posts so I have every confidence that people are aware of what they are and if any were missed those people would speak up.

So far it looks like it's West With the Night unless something dramatic happens later today...

The first time out getting the bugs out of this but I'm eternally optimistic that the next go round will be faster and more streamlined in the choosing portion.

Doesn't matter to me, just interested in getting started.

I like West with the Night, but wondering if that will discourage the men.

I don't think so...it's a woman as a main character but this is not a girly book.

A lot of men have read West with the Night.

In my opinion, the whole idea is to open yourself to something new.
I'm positive there are going to be books chosen throughout this adventure that I will have absolutely zero interest in reading but I'm going to do it anyway because I think it's important to be willing to stretch yourself literature wise.
So I would hope that the guys who are interested would be willing to take that chance and they have the opportunity to suggest books in each category as well.

Just my thoughts.

Hope24, we are voting until 9pm tonight. between the 2 books that received the most votes yesterday. The Cruelest Miles and West with the Night. Whichever gets the most votes will be the 1st book we read.

You all have inspired me, forgetting about my life for a change. Really interested in being taken out of my comfort zone. I realize some people may have lost interest, hang in there because hope is on the way. Voting next time will be really easy. Still interested in feedback. Just to clarify it is a majority rule because by reading several posts were voting. Make sure to read all posts, otherwise you lose valid information. Anyway New attitude and Summerbaby been trying to work hard with me on organization. Thanks for your kindness :)

Either one is good with me, they are both available at my library. I really want to try to not have to buy any books (so I may not participate on some if they don't have them in the library and they aren't ones that I want to own).

I would vote for the Cruelest Miles but I'm afraid a dog might get hurt and, thou I can stomach almost anything, I have a lot of trouble with that.

I still can't watch the Wizard of Oz b/c the monkeys pick on Toto.

Drumroll please..........and the winner is.........."West with the Night" by Beryl Markham. Go get your book!! If your local library doesn't have it, and there are books you don't want to pay full price for. There is always Amazon.com and Half.com. Others may have some sites as well. And if you have a used book store or book exchange, that is always a cheaper option. That way if you don't want to keep the book, you can take it back and get money for your next one...............Let's get to reading!

Now that we have the book, what's the game plan? When will we start our discussion? Are we reading parts or waiting until the end to start "talking?"

This is so fun...

I just had to walk upstairs in the store and pull it off the shelf.

It is portioned off into sections already with several chapters in each section.

"Book One" has four chapters and is about 57 pages long.

I, personally, would get more out of the group if we all committed to reading one section and discussing and then going onto the next one.

But I am open to whatever everyone wants to do.
I've not been a member of a bookclub before so I don't know if there are 'rules' about this.
