Sam and Bessie have been married for decades and are getting on in years when they decide if they are ever going to make their dream of having a “western” vacation come true, now’s the time.
Ensconsed in their dude ranch in Wyoming, they decide to get out and do the things they’ve always wanted to do. Sam has always wanted to buy a good pair of cowboy boots, so off he goes, looking for leather! Imagine his surprise when he finds the perfect pair in the ranch shop. He pays for them, puts them on and strolls back to their room.
“Hey, Bessie,” says Sam. “Notice anything different about me?”
“Naw.”
Sam is mighty proud of his new hand-tooled boots and a bit miffed that Bessie hasn’t immediately commented on them.
“Really look at me, Bessie.”
She peers at him.
“See anything different?”
“Naw.”
Insulted, Sam goes into the bathroom, takes off every stitch of clothes and walks back into the room, wearing nothing but his boots.
“Doggone it, Bessie. Look at me now! See anything different?”
“Naw,” says Bessie, eyeing him. “Same old, same old piece of equipment looking down-- as always.”
“Well, Bessie,” shouts Sam, “you know the reason my equipment is lookin’ down? It’s because it’s admiring my brand new cowboy boots!”
Bessie thinks for a second. Finally, she shakes her head. “Shoulda bought a hat, Sam. Shoulda bought a hat.”
